Naomi Watts’ transgender daughter Kai breaks silence on gender identity struggle
Kai Schreiber opened up in detail about her journey with understanding her gender identity, along with her aspirations within the modeling industry, during a recently released interview on Wednesday.
16-year-old fashion model, born to renowned actors Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, shared with Interview Magazine her exploration into the experiences of individuals within the transgender community as they navigated challenging times in history.
Kai expressed to the magazine that he consistently admires and draws inspiration from the older generation of transgender individuals, particularly when it comes to fashion.
In her own words, the actress (daughter of the Ray Donovan star and two-time Oscar nominee) shared who inspired her during her younger years as a transgender girl, while facing challenging times within the community.
Kai remarked, “There are many individuals such as Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, Colin Jones, and countless others. It’s fantastic to see a powerful group like us thriving in the fashion industry; it feels like we’ve taken over the scene!
This year, while working with the fashion brand Valentino, the second-generation celebrity experienced a significant breakthrough earlier on.
Kai expressed, “This job helped me understand that’s what I aspire to do,” he continued emphatically, “I want to become a supermodel… Full stop.
As a connoisseur of style, I’ve been delving deeper into perfecting my artistry on the runway. Recently, I had the pleasure of sharing my journey with a renowned publication.
Kai mentioned that he’s spent years perfecting his walking in the kitchen, and he has numerous videos of his practice sessions that his mother filmed at his request.
Kai added, “I believe my challenges with understanding and accepting my gender identity may have played a significant role in the situation.
Kai shared that her dream was to mature into a stunning, glamorous, impactful woman, much like Marilyn.
Besides discussing her fashion tastes during their extensive conversation, Kai humorously referred to herself as “simple yet stylish.
Kai expressed her fondness for her preferred attire: “I adore my low-slung jeans and black sweater. It’s my favorite ensemble. I appreciate it when people express their unique fashion sense.
‘When someone presents themselves in a distinctive, stylish manner, it instantly catches others’ attention and piques their curiosity. Just imagine if everyone wore identical clothes – there would be no such thing as fashion.’
Kai said that ‘the world [is] more fun’ with fashion in the mix.
