Naomi Watts confirms her unlikely friendship with Kim Kardashian with sweet birthday post after taking a swipe at the reality star several years ago

As someone who’s spent decades navigating the ever-evolving landscape of Hollywood, I must admit, I’m pleasantly surprised by the unexpected camaraderie between Naomi and Kim. It seems that the Kardashian era has indeed grown on our beloved actress, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s the allure of a new challenge or perhaps the promise of a good paycheck that’s brought them together.

On Tuesday, the 56-year-old British-Australian actress publicly acknowledged her off-set camaraderie with Kim Kardashian by posting a heartfelt birthday message dedicated to their shared role.

The renowned actress briefly and charmingly conveyed her message, mentioning both the famous reality television personality and bodywear entrepreneur, while posting a heartwarming selfie of them affectionately together.

Naomi posted a picture with the caption “Happy Birthday!”, which Kim subsequently shared on her Instagram Stories today in celebration of her 44th birthday.

In the picture, Naomi donned a straightforward black tee with her golden locks tied loosely into a low ponytail, whereas Kim posed playfully before the camera, dressed in a sleek black jacket and hiding a brief blonde wig beneath a baseball cap.

In a friendly gesture, the famous actor from Hollywood had one arm draped across Kim’s shoulders, while he gently touched her other arm with affection, as they both prepared to be snapped for the photo.

The snap could have been taken recently on the set of Ryan Murphy’s forthcoming legal drama, All’s Fair. 

Naomi deleted the backdrop from the picture, possibly to prevent disclosing any set secrets on social media.

Upon further examination, it seems that the event took place in June, as evidenced by the Balenciaga campaign titled “Characters,” which featured both Naomi and Kim.

In the photo session, Kim opted for a cropped hairstyle reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe rather than her usual long black hair, and she was seen holding the Rodeo bag – the same one that Naomi posted about on Tuesday.

2024 saw both Kim and Nicole Kidman being formally appointed as Balenciaga’s representatives, whereas Naomi donned a design by the brand at this year’s Met Ball.

During New York Fashion Week, both Kim and Naomi were present at the Kering Foundation’s yearly event called the “Caring for Women Dinner,” representing the prestigious French luxury fashion brand they represent.

But they didn’t pose for photos together despite being seated closely. 

The star-studded high fashion extravaganza is run by the chairman and CEO of Kering – the luxury fashion empire comprising Gucci, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, and Alexander McQueen.

According to Vanity Fair, Kim was mingling among the attendees at the event, interacting with Jeff Bezos and his fiancee, as well as actresses Dakota Johnson and Viola Davis.

In my recent conversation with the media, I shared that at the moment, I haven’t had the chance to practice our scenes or dialogue together with Kim. However, I did mention that we have previously crossed paths.

At the gathering, the actress who was nominated for an Emmy couldn’t help but enthusiastically praise the abilities of the Skims founder, marking a significant shift from the harsh criticism she leveled against the Kardashian family approximately ten years prior.

Naomi shared with Vanity Fair, “She’s always trying out novel and diverse activities, and it appears she excels in most, if not every one.

I’m genuinely amazed by her – incredibly so. Anyone who puts in the effort deserves significant recognition. It’s clear that she is a diligent and dedicated woman.

It came as a shock to many fans that these two celebrities have developed a strong connection, possibly due to the fact that back in 2015, Naomi expressed concern about the influence of the Kardashians on the entertainment world, stating it as ‘frightening’.

She critically examined the impact that the culture of reality TV celebrities, known as famous-for-being-famous stars, has on lessening the allure traditionally associated with Hollywood’s prominent actresses.

In this modern world, there’s an overwhelming fascination with celebrities, making us seem like we’re living in the Kardashian epoch, which can be a tad unsettling from my perspective.

‘But when you hear that there are ways to use [your celebrity status] purposefully, it makes you feel good about what you do. When it’s related to matters that you’re passionate about, it’s easy to get involved when the invitation comes.’

Indeed, it was during a time when the industry turned up its nose at the Kardashian family – specifically, Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, and matriarch Kris Jenner – for their fashion choices on the red carpet.

Kendall and Kylie were still so young and fresh-faced that they’re almost unrecognisable.  

Times have changed, and so have the Kardashians. 

On a recent day in Camarillo, California, Kim, who impressed viewers with her performance in American Horror Story, was seen shooting scenes alongside Naomi.

With her black hair neatly pulled back and mysterious dark shades, Kim radiated the charm of a silver screen icon as she filmed alongside her co-actor.

The series, which centers on an all-female law firm, boasts an all-star cast, including Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, and Teyana Taylor. 

Kim is executive producing and her mother Kris Jenner, is playing one of the divorce lawyers. 

Ryan Murphy seems to be attempting to recreate the captivating drama he created in American Horror Story by crafting a character tailored especially for Kim.

In the series American Horror Story: Coven, Kim brilliantly portrayed the crafty public relations figure, Siobhan. Her character, reminiscent of Kris Jenner, manipulated a naive young actress (Emma Roberts) into giving away her unborn child for an Academy Award.

The satanic twist Murphy put on IVF and surrogacy also struck pretty close to the bone with Kim, who birthed two of her children with Kanye West via surrogates. 

With the reality star planning to take the Bar exam in 2025 and recently cast as a divorce lawyer, it’s quite possible that she could serve as his fresh inspiration.
