Most people have a go-to holiday movie. While It’s A Wonderful Life is often considered a classic, even though it wasn’t a huge hit in theaters, many others prefer films like Home Alone, A Christmas Story, or even older, sometimes quirky favorites like Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. But for fans of romantic comedies, The Holiday is a popular choice. It’s amazing to think it’s been nearly 20 years since the movie came out, and recent behind-the-scenes photos shared by Nancy Meyers, showing how young the cast was, are making me realize it’s true.
Nancy Meyers recently posted behind-the-scenes photos from the movie The Holiday on social media. Fans loved seeing a picture of Cameron Diaz preparing for her famous fight scene with Edward Burns, and another sweet photo of Diaz playing with Milly Englefield, the young actress who played her niece. It’s amazing to realize that Milly Englefield is now 26 years old!

Meyers explained she posted the photos because fans kept tagging her in posts about the movie The Holiday, and she wanted to share some memories in return. While it’s fun to see those old behind-the-scenes pictures, it’s also making me think about getting older!
When The Holiday was released in 2006, the stars – Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black – were all in their early to mid-thirties. It’s no surprise they look younger now! What really gets me is realizing I was a high school student when the movie came out, and now I’m older than they were at the time. It just makes me feel how quickly time is passing.
As Macaulay Culkin famously pointed out a few years back, doesn’t it make you feel old to think about how much time has passed?
A while ago, rumors started about a possible sequel to The Holiday. It’s been a few years, and nothing official has happened, but I’d still love to see another movie with the original cast, or a new project bringing them together. Jack Black is having a huge moment with films like Minecraft and Super Mario Bros., and he has another Christmas movie, Anaconda, coming out in 2025. Kate Winslet is also busy – she’s making her directorial debut with a Netflix film called Goodbye June that everyone’s raving about. Even Cameron Diaz is getting back into acting, so let’s try to make a Holiday sequel happen!
You can watch the classic Nancy Meyers movie right now with a Philo subscription, but surprisingly it’s not available for free on major streaming services. Luckily, I still have the DVD! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to make some hot cocoa and ponder life. Happy holidays, I guess?
