Naked Gun legend Ed Williams dead at 98… days after former costar Diane Keaton’s passing

Ed Williams, the actor famous for playing the dry-witted scientist Ted Olson in ‘Police Squad!’ and ‘The Naked Gun’ movies, has passed away at 98 years old.

Stephanie Williams confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that her grandfather passed away in Los Angeles on October 2nd.

Many comedy fans will recognize Williams as the actor who first gained attention playing a serious character alongside Leslie Nielsen in the beloved, but short-lived, TV show *Police Squad!*

He famously played Ted Olson again in the popular *Naked Gun* films, and his character’s silly ‘scientific demonstrations’ quickly became a beloved, repeating joke for audiences.

Robin Williams often played religious figures – like reverends, priests, and ministers – in addition to his comedic roles, throughout his long career.

He’s fondly remembered for his role in the 1991 film *Father of the Bride*, where he performed the wedding ceremony for Annie Banks (Kimberly Williams) and Bryan MacKenzie (George Newbern). The beloved romantic comedy, starring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, featured Keaton, who recently passed away at age 79 from pneumonia.

Robin Williams was a beloved actor in movies and TV for over four decades, known for his charming personality and excellent comedic skills.

A cause of death was not immediately released.
