Naga Munchetty 50 Reveals Sterilisation Backlash Over Her Choice Not to Have Kids

Naga Munchetty has admitted she was vilified after revealing she had been sterilised.

In 2019, when she was around fifty years old, the broadcaster chose to undergo a minimally invasive procedure to seal off her fallopian tubes – a decision made years earlier in consultation with her husband James Haggar, as they both opted not to have children.

At first, she used an intrauterine device (IUD), but the insertion process caused her intense pain, leading her to take it out after a year.

Since the coil was no longer feasible, and preferring not to depend on hormones or the routine of taking the pill, she opted for a surgical procedure – a permanent method of birth control instead.

However, it became clear that Naga encountered criticism after announcing her decision, as she shared with Saga magazine (where she also modeled for an impactful photo session) that she was labeled ‘unfavorable’ due to her choice.

Naga expressed, “We cherished our lifestyle and wished to maintain it. Raising children comes with significant costs, tireless efforts, and an unending responsibility.

She went on to explain, “Mom might tell me, ‘You’re still my little one and I frett over you,’ but I recall others commenting, ‘Oh, that’s so cruel! How could you deprive your parents of grandkids?’

Initially, it was challenging for her, but now she comprehends. She expresses, “My dear Naga, it would have been delightful to witness grandchildren, yet equally enchanting to see your accomplishments and the person you’ve grown into.” Isn’t this what we aspire for our children?

In the U.K., it’s found that about one out of every ten women experiences adenomyosis, a health issue characterized by the growth of the uterine lining into the muscles within the uterus itself.

Her condition wasn’t identified until November 2022, though she had been experiencing symptoms as early as when she was fifteen. It took a total of 32 years for her to finally receive a diagnosis.

As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, I am thrilled to share that I have recently published a groundbreaking book titled “It’s Probably Nothing.” This work delves into the crucial issue of medical misogyny, emphasizing the importance of women’s voices being acknowledged and respected in healthcare settings. Empowering women to take charge of their health is at the heart of this compelling narrative.

‘I feel a lot of responsibility as custodian to so many women’s stories,’ she confessed.

They frequently found themselves emotional as they discussed things with me, coming to terms with the amount of time and chances they missed out on due to their health issues. Despite doing everything in their power, they still feel a sense of self-blame for not having exerted more effort.

She shared that she successfully hid her health issue during her time hosting BBC Breakfast, stating, “I am seen as a reliable provider of information; my personal health concerns don’t seem to matter to anyone.

She went on to say: ‘In our field, it’s important not to appear vulnerable and avoid giving in to compromises since there’s fierce competition everywhere, and we’re constantly striving for excellence.’

I won’t let it interfere with my work. I can be quite stubborn, so if necessary, I’ll take painkillers to help me focus and ensure I do my job well.

In the previous month, I found myself in a challenging situation as I was reportedly involved in a strained dynamic at BBC Breakfast. Allegedly, there were claims that my professional relationship with co-presenter Charlie Stayt had become frosty due to disagreements with our editor concerning certain behaviors perceived as bullying and misconduct. However, it’s essential to note that these are just allegations, and the truth remains to be seen.

The duo, stationed at BBC’s Salford studios and collectively earning £545,000, are reportedly in dispute with Richard Frediani, often referred to as Fredi by his peers.

According to sources who spoke with Katie Hind from The Mail, it was reported that Naga had privately voiced concerns about his actions to executives at the corporation.

It’s reported that Naga voiced worries regarding Frediani to BBC News executives, according to a source within the company, who stated that the controversy has caused quite a stir in the team’s WhatsApp chat groups.

Since taking over as editor of the leading news program in 2019, it’s been reported that Frediani has been involved in at least two instances of alleged workplace misconduct.

The BBC declined to comment on individual HR matters when previously approached by TopMob.
