My Lady Jane getting cancelled is a huge disappointment, here's why Prime Video should reconsider bringing it back

As a dedicated viewer of TV shows and a lover of unique storytelling, I can’t help but feel disheartened by the cancellation of “My Lady Jane” on Prime Video. With its enchanting blend of romance, humor, and high-stakes drama, it was a breath of fresh air in an industry that often feels oversaturated with reboots and sequels.

Romance? Check. Enemies to lovers? Check. Plot driven story with fantastical elements? Check. A strong female lead? Check. An epic Princess Bride moment? Check. Literally, My Lady Jane checks all the boxes in what could make a show a great production and one enjoyable for viewers. So I can’t understand why Prime Video has decided to cancel this exceptional series. It’s a huge disappointment.

On August 16, 2024, it was announced that the fantasy drama series, “My Lady Jane,” had been cancelled following its first season, with low viewership numbers being the apparent reason behind the decision. According to Deadline, the show failed to make it into Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 rankings for original streaming content.

It’s quite astonishing that despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews for the show, including my own, and a substantial fanbase it amassed upon release, studios primarily consider its numerical performance. This show excels in creativity and storytelling, but unfortunately, these aspects are not the main focus for studios.

I’m quite disheartened since it seems challenging to discover a series that’s fresh and distinctive these days. Most streaming platforms are predominantly engaged in reboots, sequels, or revivals. However, “My Lady Jane” is an extraordinary exception. Although it’s based on a popular tale and given a new twist, the way it’s been presented is unique and entertaining, maintaining its originality. The characters intended to be humorous are genuinely hilarious, Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel’s on-screen chemistry is electrifying, and you can’t help but cheer for their characters throughout the series.

As a die-hard fan of “My Lady Jane,” I can’t help but feel the story has only just begun, given how season 1 ended. Mary, my queen, still clings to her throne with an iron fist, while Lady Jane and Guildford remain on the run, desperate for a cure that eludes them. King Edward continues his covert existence, and it appears as though even our dearest characters harbor secrets yet undisclosed. This series has captured my heart this year, and I find myself fervently hoping against hope that Amazon Prime Video reconsiders its decision. However, I’m well aware of the slim chances; reversals like these are seldom seen in the world of studios.

Despite my reservations, I’m choosing to stay optimistic, much like other enthusiastic fans on Twitter. A dedicated fan base has initiated a movement, #SaveLadyJane, aimed at reinstating the series. In all honesty, I don’t have high expectations for this campaign, but given how deserving My Lady Jane is of being revived, it’s worth giving it a try. I’ll do my part to support in any way possible.

All eight episodes of My Lady Jane are streaming on Prime Video.
