'My Lady Jane' fans rally behind online campaign to save Prime series from cancellation

As a long-time connoisseur of period dramas and historical fiction, I must confess that “My Lady Jane” has captivated my heart and ignited my passion for storytelling anew. This enchanting series, set against the backdrop of Tudor England, has effortlessly blended humor, romance, and drama in a way that resonates deeply with audiences craving for something fresh and engaging.

“The Dudleys never say die” — and neither do the fans of “My Lady Jane.”

Supporters of the Prime Video show are uniting around a web-based initiative, urging for the preservation of the historical comedy-drama from being taken off the air.

As a passionate film buff, I was saddened to learn on August 16th that Amazon Prime Video decided not to renew “My Lady Jane” for another season. Despite its captivating storyline, the show didn’t seem to resonate with a broad audience or manage to break into Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 streaming rankings for original shows, as reported by Deadline.

I, serving as a representative for Amazon Studios, did not promptly respond to The Times’ request for comment on Friday.

After the announcement, fans of the show expressed their disappointment on social media.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my disappointment. Jane and Guildford truly earned their second season, as did the entire cast. Our show, with its blend of humor, romance, historical drama, and exceptional acting talent, had it all. It’s not just good; it has a dedicated fanbase. Unfortunately, it seems that quality productions aren’t always prioritized for renewal… #SaveMyLadyJane #MyLadyJane

“Despite my deep sorrow, I must express that #myladyjane has been one of my most cherished interests. It’s truly disheartening and frustrating beyond words that those in charge didn’t appreciate you as we did. Let’s strive to keep #SaveMyLadyJane alive.”

“I can’t ever forget what they did, taking them away from me. It had been such a long time since I felt this level of excitement, but my dear Lady Jane is gone.”

Gemma Burgess, the creator and showrunner of “My Lady Jane,” expressed her gratitude on Instagram to everyone who has watched the series over the past seven weeks. Unfortunately, she shared her disappointment that they are unable to produce more episodes at this time.

When supporters discovered that Amazon Prime Video hadn’t confirmed a new season for the show, they sparked a movement, initiating an online crusade titled “Save My Lady Jane.” On July 15th, Lauren Mullaney began a petition on Change.org, pleading for another season. Since its inception following the cancellation, the petition has amassed over 20,000 signatures and continues to gain momentum.

The Times was unable to reach Mullaney for comment Friday.

As a fervent admirer of “My Lady Jane,” I’ve decided to rally my fellow fans by offering a simple yet effective method to voice our collective appreciation – or constructive criticism – for the series. This petition includes handy links to rate and review the show on IMDb, Prime Video, and Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, it guides us towards following the Save My Lady Jane group on various social media platforms, including X and Facebook.

Drawing inspiration from the book “My Lady Jane” penned by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows, I’d like to share my delightful take on a fascinating reinterpretation of the true tale of Lady Jane Grey, also known as England’s “Nine Days Queen” who ascended the throne in the 1500s only to be dethroned by her cousin, the notorious Mary Tudor, or “Bloody” Mary, after a mere nine days. The series creatively re-imagines Jane’s story, transforming it into an intriguing “what if” scenario where our heroine, portrayed by Emily Bader, and her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley, played by Edward Bluemel, manage to evade their grim historical destinies.

Before the official announcement of Season 2, even beyond the fans, Bader had expressed her desires for Jane’s future storyline to People magazine in an interview that was published on Tuesday.

In a new twist, Bader commented, “For the first time, she’s experiencing freedom, yet she isn’t at all – as she’s abandoned her family and siblings in the clutches of Queen Mary, portrayed by Kate O’Flynn, who harbors intense anger towards her.” He further added, “I believe Jane would excel as a queen. It’s often those unwilling that prove to be most fit for the role.”
