My Kitchen Rules star Anthony Michael Mu accused of beating a woman with a metal spatula and throwing a burger at her head

A well-known competitor on a reality cooking show is facing accusations of assault. Reports claim they hit a woman with a metal spatula and threw a burger at her.

On the 2023 season of My Kitchen Rules, Claudean Uamaki-Mu and her husband Anthony Michael Mu were known as a dynamic duo – she brought the Italian passion, and he the laid-back Samoan vibe.

The couple have both faced court in the last year over serious allegations.

The trial of Mr. Mu began in July with seven charges against him, including assault causing injury, simple assault, and violating someone’s privacy by observing them.

He has pleaded not guilty to all of the alleged offences.

The court case continued on Friday in Richlands Magistrates Court, where a witness testified in support of the reality TV star.

According to testimony in court, Mr. Mu is a quiet man who doesn’t often raise his voice. While he speaks firmly, he doesn’t yell or use profanity, news.com.au reported.

During the trial in July, another woman involved in the case testified that Mu allegedly broke through a wall to attack her after she reportedly rolled her eyes at him.

She claimed in court that she was beaten with a metal spatula on her hands, arm and knuckles.

The court had previously been told that he supposedly threw a burger at her head, pulled her hair, and yelled at her to stand up, using offensive language.

He grabbed my hair, making it impossible to stay on my feet. I lost my balance and fell, and then he pulled me by my hair.

‘I believe he was still calling me a ‘disrespectful c***’.’

During Friday’s proceedings, the woman – initially identified as a complainant and questioned by police – confessed that her original statement contained untruths.

She also said complainants said ‘quite nasty things’ about Uamaki-Mu, but not Mu.

During the court hearing, evidence revealed abusive language directed at Mu’s wife, including extremely offensive and derogatory name-calling. Witnesses testified that those making the comments also portrayed her as a terrible person.

She denied claims that Mr. Mu was verbally or physically abusive, and suggested one person complaining about him seemed motivated by potential financial gain from the situation.

In court, Stephen Kissick, Mu’s lawyer, argued that there wasn’t enough evidence to support the charge of violating someone’s privacy through observation.

Magistrate Michael Quinn agreed with Mr. Kissick’s argument and dismissed the charge, stating that there was no evidence to support it.

Oh my gosh, I was so into this couple on My Kitchen Rules! They were calling themselves the ‘Married Battlers,’ which was just adorable, and I really thought they had a chance. But then, out of nowhere, their time on the show was just…over. It was so sudden, and apparently it was because of some allegations. I was totally gutted – I really wanted to see how far they could go!

A court order had kept the couple’s names secret since 2023, but that order was removed in April.

Uamaki-Mu has pleaded guilty to six charges of common assault in May.
