Three weeks prior to Caroline Flack’s suicide, she urgently contacted a lawyer in an attempt to halt the upcoming trial for assault charges stemming from an incident where she struck her boyfriend with a lamp during a fit of jealous anger.

Despondent but resolute in her search for a resolution, she decided to reach out to lawyer Nick Green, based in Lancashire.

Caroline got connected with Green through her friend and co-TV host Melanie Sykes, who became well-known for being the lead model in Boddingtons Bitter commercials throughout the 90s.

Back in 2013, just like in the current situation, Mel Sykes was detained under accusations of physically attacking her significantly younger spouse, Jack Cockings, due to some striking parallels.

Mel appeared genuinely concerned about the Love Island presenter, and her apprehension proved justified later on.

Following Green’s legal intervention, all accusations against Ms. Sykes were later dismissed, and the next year, the common-assault warning that had been placed on her record was erased.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Mel fervently wished that her attorney might extend the same assistance to Caroline. Furthermore, he himself confirms to the Mail that he harbored similar aspirations in this regard.

Three weeks ago, on January 24th, his memory brought back their conversation. In that moment, he noticed her voice trembling with fear and exposure, which left him deeply affected.

He shared that upon answering the call, he immediately sensed the fear and anguish in her tone, on the verge of tears. To lighten the mood, he interjected by saying, ‘Caroline, I need to caution you, if you begin to cry, I’ll hang up.’

Recently, I had the opportunity to witness such resilience in a woman named Caroline, who, despite her grief, managed to display a spark of her old self. I couldn’t help but be reminded of the cackle that once graced our television screens, a testament to her indomitable spirit.

In my experience, life has a way of testing us, and it is during these trials that we truly discover who we are and what we are made of. Caroline’s story serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, our character can return stronger than ever before. It is in these moments of struggle that we have the opportunity to learn, grow, and emerge on the other side with newfound strength and determination.

The aspect that appeared to cause Caroline the greatest concern was a video recording from police body-cameras, which were taken during the night she was accused of assaulting Lewis Burton, who was 27 at the time, as he slept. Upon their arrival at Caroline’s flat in north London on December 12, 2019, the officers discovered both individuals covered in blood and Caroline with injuries to her wrist.

Following her hospital treatment, she received a warning before being officially accused of assault. Her court date was set for March 2020, a decision by the CPS that filled her with dread. Caroline confided in friends that she’d rather perish than have the recordings from that night made public, and she sought Green’s assistance.

One of Green’s major worries, as he shared with the Mail, was the stringent ‘no interaction’ bail term set for Caroline, which prohibited her from communicating with Burton – a previous tennis player and model whom she suspected was unfaithful to her.

Green notes that the situation involved a particularly stringent requirement, which could have exacerbated Caroline’s existing vulnerable mental state.

Generally speaking, those charged with a crime have the right to be released on bail without any special conditions, especially when they possess an admirable reputation and the crime is relatively minor – factors that were true for Caroline Flack.

At the crime scene, it was discovered that all the blood belonged to her. Moreover, it was reported that Burton had a minor wound on his head, which didn’t necessitate medical attention. Furthermore, Green stated that there was no ‘susceptible individual’ – a condition often imposed for bail, similar to what she had.

Initially, Burton expressed his wish that Caroline wouldn’t be prosecuted, choosing not to offer a statement as he hoped it would result in the dismissal of the charges. According to Green, there were other factors that should have been considered as well.

He mentions that no kids were part of the situation, and Caroline had a place of her own to go back to, not reliant on her boyfriend.

Additionally, he emphasized that she was a seasoned woman possessing an admirable moral compass, devoid of any prior records related to domestic violence.

Consequently, there was no requirement for stringent stipulations; instead, he considered Caroline as someone under suspicion, or more specifically, as a potential criminal.

He states that the implementation of a ‘no contact’ rule might have initiated a chain of events leading to her suicide. It kept her in seclusion, amplifying her emotions, and consistently strained her already delicate mental health.

Green also reveals that Caroline said she was ‘frightened’ of a female prosecutor from the CPS.

He mentioned that when he inquired if Caroline had requested a Crown Court judge to lift the no-contact order, she responded, “I was instructed not to.” Upon hearing this, he exclaimed, “Why on earth weren’t you allowed to, Caroline?” as it seemed like the influence of the CPS was overwhelming and Caroline was appearing particularly vulnerable.

According to Green, Caroline was informed that she shouldn’t dispute the decree because the proceedings were to be publicized by the media – a situation she found too daunting.

She shared her concern with me that it might lead to additional media attention and mentioned that the prosecutor had warned they might use the body-cam video. As my worries were becoming reality, when I explained an appeal [to lift the ‘no-contact order’] would take place in private with the judge and she wouldn’t need to attend, all I received was “this isn’t what my lawyers have advised me”. The more I listened, the less favorable it sounded.

It wasn’t surprising at all that her mental health had deteriorated. One doesn’t usually succeed when taking a step backward – that is, unless one is a tennis player. This amusing remark, reminiscent of his past as a tennis player, caused Caroline to chuckle, he shared.

However, he wouldn’t get to hear it again. Three weeks passed, and Caroline was discovered deceased in her apartment in Stoke Newington. It was revealed that she had only recently found out that her trial for the event was actually scheduled.

Previously this year, Caroline’s mom, Christine, disclosed that the Independent Office for Police Conduct recommended the Metropolitan Police to restart their probe concerning Caroline’s situation.

The guardian suggests conducting an interview with the officer present during Caroline’s arrest, who allegedly played a role in overturning the CPS’s decision to give her a warning – a move that deeply affected her, as shared by friends Louise Teasdale and Mollie Grosberg, who stood by her after her suicide attempt, just before her passing.

Initially, Jody, Caroline’s identical sibling, was supposed to assume control the following day. However, for reasons unclear in some accounts, they (Caroline and her sister) departed before Jody’s arrival. Some stories suggest a quick trip to the store, while others imply that they were asked to leave by Caroline herself.

Green believes the star could have been saved.
