My 600-lb Life star Dolly Martinez’s cause of death revealed after her tragic death at age 30

Dolly Martinez, who appeared on the show My 600-lb Life, passed away at age 30, and the reason for her death has now been made public.

According to TMZ, Martinez’s mother, Staci Thurman, has shared that her daughter passed away due to congestive heart failure.

It breaks my heart to share that she passed away peacefully at a Fort Worth hospital, surrounded by all the people who loved her. Thurman let us know, and it’s just devastating news.

According to TMZ, Martinez went to the hospital on March 29th because they had been feeling unwell and experiencing health problems.

When she arrived at the hospital, doctors found fluid around her heart and lungs. She was put into a medically-induced coma and the following day, she needed a ventilator to breathe, according to reports.

Sadly, she did not recover.

Lindsey Cooper, who was both her half-sister and best friend, was there when she passed away and shared a heartfelt message remembering her as someone who brought joy to everyone around her.

I’m heartbroken to share that my wonderful sister, Dolly, has passed away,” she wrote on Facebook. “Dolly was a truly radiant person who could brighten anyone’s day with her laughter, kindness, and loving nature. She had a gift for making everyone feel valued, and her warmth will be deeply missed and remembered always.

We’re deeply saddened by Dolly’s passing, but we take comfort in knowing she’s now with our father in heaven. We imagine how happy they both are to be together again. Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love and miss you, and you’ll forever be in our hearts.

Just days before her sister passed away, Cooper shared a concerning message on Facebook. She wrote that National Siblings Day had been difficult because her sister, Dolly, was in the hospital and seriously ill, fighting for her life. She explained she hadn’t shared the news widely yet.

‘At this time I ask for prayers and privacy as we as a family navigate through this hard time.’

In 2022, when her story appeared on My 600-Lb. Life, Dolly was 25 years old and weighed 593 pounds, requiring the use of oxygen.

She turned to Dr. Now for help with her weight and managed to lose 40 pounds. Unfortunately, she wasn’t eligible for weight loss surgery.

During a recent episode, Martinez revealed she was struggling deeply, explaining that food was the only thing that could temporarily ease her difficult thoughts.

She explained that food is her main comfort when she’s hurting, describing it as ‘not just something I enjoy, but what gives my life meaning.’

She confessed she was desperately looking forward to the comfort of food. ‘It’s a strange thing,’ she admitted, ‘food has brought me a lot of pain, but it’s also the only source of happiness I’ve ever known.’

Martinez’s eating issues began long ago.

From as early as I can remember, I’ve turned to food for comfort. It consistently brings me joy, and it still does today.

During the show, Martinez shared that she was raised by her mother alone after her father struggled with drug addiction and left the family.

‘I was left alone a lot and that’s how it started, my relationship with food,’ she said.

I used to turn to food whenever I thought about my dad, and I enjoyed the comfort it gave me.

Martinez’s mom Staci appeared on the show and gave insight into her daughter’s troubled childhood.

She explained that Dolly was always a unique child, and because other children were often unkind, she naturally became very protective.

Her mom added, ‘Being singled out as the fat girl is quite uncomfortable.’

Okay, so after seeing her on TV, my absolute idol – the one with the incredible blue hair! – updated her Instagram bio, and I almost cried. She actually wrote that she’s not homeless anymore! And get this – she said she’s losing weight and feeling good! It’s just… everything I’ve been hoping for her. I’m so unbelievably happy for her, seriously!

Her account was set to private, but her public profile stated she was taking life one day at a time and cherished both God and her family.

In a June 2024 Instagram post, as reported by Us Weekly, she shared that she’s realizing what she’s been losing and, more importantly, recognizing her own value.
