After its release, a gritty Liverpool drama featuring Anna Friel and Anna Maxwell Martin has seen a significant rise in popularity on streaming platforms several weeks later.
The standalone, full-length TV movie titled “Unforgivable” narrates the story of a family grappling with the fallout from heinous acts of grooming and sexual abuse, perpetrated within their circle.
In just 90 minutes, the one-off production written by Jimmy McGovern, known for his work with “Time” and “Accused,” has soared up the BBC iPlayer streaming rankings. Two weeks after its release at the end of July, it now stands at number 2.
Under the guidance of director Julia Ford, the film Unforgivable delves into the far-reaching consequences of abuse as experienced by various parties. It also explores their attempts to navigate through destruction towards a path of recovery.
In this TV movie, Bobby Schofield, Austin Haynes, Finn McParland, Jonas Armstrong, and David Threlfall make up the impressive ensemble cast that has been hailed as potentially surpassing the acclaimed series “Adolescence,” according to The Guardian.
The drama has been highly recommended as a captivating tale by the BBC Radio 5’s “Must Watch” podcast, and The Times commended Schofield’s acting as an exceptional demonstration of subtlety.
In simpler terms, McGovern had earlier discussed collaborating with a talented ensemble from Britain, expressing his long-standing respect for Threlfall.
The screenwriter expressed joy when he agreed, despite the fact that this task was only slightly different from his usual work.
