Must-see! We’ve just had our first look at Sophie Turner as the iconic Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft

The first image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft has been revealed before the upcoming Tomb Raider series begins. Production is now underway on the show, created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (known for Fleabag), and this gives fans a first look at Turner taking on the famous role.

The actor takes on the role of the adventurer and archaeologist, a character previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

The image shows Turner dressed as Lara Croft from the original 1990s Tomb Raider video game, complete with her iconic shorts, dual pistols, and red-tinted round sunglasses.

This new version of Lara Croft looks more like the character as she’ll appear in the upcoming game, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, releasing later this year, than she did in the Survivor trilogy that inspired Alicia Vikander’s portrayal.

Turner is joined by a stacked cast, including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Celia Imrie.

I’m really excited about the new Amazon MGM Studios show! It’s got a mix of characters we already know and love, plus some fresh faces, and they all seem to orbit around the version of Lara Croft that the show is building. It feels like a really interesting dynamic!

The video games feature several established characters, including Lara’s friend Zip (played by Martin Bobb-Semple), her uncle Atlas DeMornay (Isaacs), and her family’s butler, Winston (Bill Paterson).

The cast now features new characters like Lara’s pilot, Gerry, along with government figures David and Thomas Warner, played by Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, and Paterson Joseph.

Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Sigourney Weaver portrays Evelyn Wallis, a secretive and ambitious woman who hopes to use Lara’s skills for her own purposes. Celia Imrie plays Francine, who is in charge of fundraising and development at the British Museum.

Sasha Luss stars as Sasha, Lara’s opponent, while Juliette Motamed plays Georgia, a dedicated curator at the British Museum. August Wittgenstein plays Lukas, a black-market treasure hunter with a past connected to Lara.

Speaking on taking over the role of Lara, Turner described the heroine as a “fierce” role model.

“I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara,” she said. “She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!”

The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s a special tribute to Dolly Parton! You can find ‘Dolly at 80’ in shops or order it online for only £8.99.
