The popular BBC drama titled “Sherwood” starring Lorraine Ashbourne and Lesley Manville, is coming back with even more surprising turns of events – here’s what you should know about its upcoming episodes.

Initially airing in 2022, this series is loosely based on actual murders that took place in Nottinghamshire. The second season, which premiered last year, unfolds in the contemporary era as two different families become embroiled with the Sparrows, and a new Sheriff of Nottingham confronts a fresh mine challenge.

To begin with, the premiere of this season attracted more than 6.5 million viewers, as reported by the BBC. Last year, the broadcaster announced that it will air a third installment of the show.

The show is once more penned by James Graham, a playwright known for Quiz and Brian and Maggie, who hails from Nottinghamshire. Upon hearing the news of its renewal, he expressed: “It’s an ongoing honor to weave tales grounded in the history and inspiration of my hometown, Nottinghamshire.

It’s a joyful reality for many British writers to see their work continue as a series on the BBC. I am deeply appreciative of the unwavering enthusiasm that Lindsay, Charlotte, and Jo hold for Sherwood, and extend my gratitude to everyone at House Productions, who are truly exceptional and supportive producers.

Juliette Howell, Harriet Spencer (both executive producers at House Productions along with Tessa Ross) expressed their joy: “The affection the second season of ‘Sherwood’ has received has been truly amazing to observe. We’re overjoyed that the BBC is supporting this unique drama for a third time, allowing us to share more captivating tales from the Nottinghamshire community, which played such a significant role in James’s life.

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement as Sherwood has swiftly ascended to become one of the all-time great television dramas. Its masterful blend of characters, narratives, and themes has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of millions of viewers throughout the UK. The privilege of collaborating with James Graham and his team in crafting Sherwood’s next captivating chapter for the BBC is truly a dream come true.

This most recent season received widespread praise; Digital Spy labeled it as both thrilling and tense in their five-star critique. Notably, each episode garnered a remarkable 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A confirmed cast list is yet to be announced, though we should expect the returns of

1. I, Lorraine Ashbourne, take on the role of Daphne Sparrow.

2. Lesley Manville becomes Julie Jackson in my portrayal.

3. David Morrissey steps into the character of DCS Ian St Clair, a role that’s mine as well.

5. In this production, I am David Harewood, portraying Dennis Bottomley.

6. Robert Lindsay transforms into Franklin Warner, but on some days, I embody him too.

7. Perry Fitzpatrick is Rory Sparrow in the series, yet there are scenes where I step into his shoes as well.

8. Christine Bottomley breathes life into Rachel Crossley, a role that, at times, feels like it could be mine too.

9. Michael Balogun portrays DCS Harry Summers, but when the camera’s on him, I might just as easily be standing there.

10. In this drama, Oliver Huntingdon embodies Ryan Bottomley, but during certain scenes, it could just as easily be me.

11. Bethany Asher portrays Stephie Bottomley, but in some instances, I share the screen with her, making her character my own for a moment too.
