What to Read Next
Film Club
This romantic comedy-drama features Aimee Lou Wood and Suranne Jones as Evie (Wood) and her unconventional mother, Suz (Suranne).
Called “sweet and punchy” by Jones, the series centers around Evie, who uses her garage as a meeting place for her film club. There, she and her best friend, Noa (Nabhaan Rizwan), lose themselves in the magic of storytelling.
Everything is going great for Evie and Noa until she finds out Noa’s dream job will take him across the country. This news makes them question if their relationship is just a friendship – but have they waited too long to do something about it?
Film Club will be shown on BBC Three on Tuesday, October 7th at 10 PM. You can also watch all episodes on BBC iPlayer starting from 6 AM that same day.
The Celebrity Traitors UK
Expect plenty of trickery and betrayal when the UK’s much-awaited Celebrity Traitors begins! Eighteen famous faces will be heading to a castle to take part in this popular show.
Similar to the original series, host Claudia Winkleman will select a small team of Traitors from the larger group of Faithfuls. These Traitors will secretly work together to eliminate the Faithfuls, one by one, with the goal of winning a prize for their chosen charities. Meanwhile, the Faithfuls will try to identify and expose the Traitors, who will be operating in secret.
The competitors this year are Historian and Filmmaker David Olusoga, The Thursday Murder Club‘s Celia Imrie, EastEnders star Tameka Empson, and Ted Lasso‘s Nick Mohammed.
The Celebrity Traitors is coming to BBC One on Wednesday, October 8th, and will be shown every week on both Wednesday and Thursday nights at 9pm.
Victoria Beckham
Against the exciting and fast-paced environment of getting ready for Paris Fashion Week, Netflix’s Victoria Beckham documentary series follows the designer as she works on putting together her biggest and most challenging fashion show to date.
However, the three-part documentary series actually follows the former Spice Girl’s journey to stardom – both as part of the famous pop group and through her relationship with well-known footballer David Beckham.
Blending memories from her history with her current life, Victoria Beckham hopes to “share the difficulties and successes that have shaped who she is-and continue to motivate her,” (according to Tudum).
Victoria Beckham is available to watch from Thursday 9 October on Netflix.
Boots
This coming-of-age story offers a fresh and unusual perspective, which Netflix calls an “irreverent, offbeat take” on the genre. Teenager Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer), who is secretly gay, and his close friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh) join “the tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps,” (according to Tudum).
I’m really getting invested in Cameron and Ray’s journey! They’re thrown right into the deep end with all the other recruits at bootcamp, and it’s intense watching them go through all the tough training. But it’s not just about the physical challenges – they’re really building some strong connections with each other too. It’s a story about finding out who you are when you’re under so much pressure, and honestly, I have a feeling it’s going to be pretty heartbreaking. I can already feel myself getting emotionally invested!
Boots is available to watch from Thursday 9 October on Netflix.
Murder Before Evensong
Matthew Lewis takes the leading role in this crime drama, playing Canon Daniel Clement, the Rector of Champton, and his life is dramatically altered by unforeseen events. The series is inspired by the novel of the same name written by Reverend Richard Coles, and also features Happy Valley’s Amit Shah and David Moore, known from Outlander.
The book’s description tells us that when Daniel proposes putting a toilet in the church, it causes a surprising split within the community. As people take sides, old secrets begin to surface and threaten the peaceful atmosphere of the village…
Murder Before Evensong is available to watch from Tuesday 7 October at 9pm on Channel 5.
