Murder at Yellowstone City

Despite the fact that Taylor Sheridan’s portrayal of “Yellowstone” has tainted its reputation and made it forever linked to his Western universe,

It’s not uncommon for movies that were once heavily criticized and forgotten to find new life on streaming platforms. However, this movie might receive an extra boost due to some algorithm or another promoting it, likely because of the large, eye-catching title “Yellowstone“. After all, algorithms are logical, but they lack common sense to understand when a name doesn’t necessarily mean what it seems to.

Viewers clicking on “Murder at Yellowstone City” may find they’re not getting the epic, action-packed Western tales centered around the Dutton family, which have been popular on Paramount+ for some time now. Instead, they’ll encounter a dialogue-heavy murder mystery that seems to be falling flat with viewers, especially those who were hoping for something entirely different based on their expectations.

What is ‘Murder at Yellowstone City’ About?

In the year 1881, under the guidance of director Richard Gray, the film “Murder at Yellowstone City” invites viewers into a once-thriving gold camp that has now transformed into a dusty ghost town. The mayor of this forsaken town is portrayed by Gabriel Bryne, who also plays the role of a preacher. The storyline commences when a miner, having discovered a valuable gold vein, meets an untimely demise. The subsequent investigation to expose the murderer becomes the main focus in this intriguing movie.

Originally thriving and tranquil, Yellowstone City now faces tough circumstances. However, when a local miner discovers gold, things appear to be looking up. Yet, optimism is swiftly dampened as the miner is discovered dead, and the Sheriff promptly arrests an enigmatic stranger. Yet, in this quiet western town, matters are seldom straightforward, and several residents conceal secrets and motives for murder. As gruesome killings escalate, causing tension among neighbors, Yellowstone City finds itself on a violent journey towards a climactic confrontation where not everyone will make it out alive.

Although this film may seem appealing with its star-studded cast featuring Thomas Jane, Isaiah Mustafa, Anna Camp, and Richard Dreyfuss, its reception has been less than stellar. Critics have slammed the movie for a slow pace and lack of engagement or thrills, often describing it as a missed opportunity that results in embarrassment rather than enjoyment. Audience responses were similarly unimpressed, with many commenting on the film’s predictability and some even suggesting that the only redeeming quality is the scenery. Despite these criticisms, if you’re still curious about this alternative “Yellowstone,” it’s currently available for streaming on Netflix.
