MuppetVision 3D May Be Coming Back in a BIG Way
Could we experience MuppetVision VR? According to Jim Henson’s daughter, it’s a possibility.
Enthusiasts of MuppetVision 3D got a delightful surprise this week with the announcement that the cherished attraction could potentially be revived in the realm of virtual reality, as Lisa Henson, the CEO of The Jim Henson Company and daughter of Jim Henson, hinted at its possible return.

At a recent gathering honoring the 70th anniversary of The Jim Henson Company, I shared an exciting revelation: We’ve already captured the entire MuppetVision 3D experience using virtual reality cameras! Currently, we’re engaged in fruitful discussions with Disney to bring this magical show to cutting-edge devices such as the Apple Vision Pro, promising an immersive viewing experience like never before.
Henson confirmed that we’ve discussed transforming MuppetVision into a VR experience with Disney. This means that the original attraction has been thoroughly recorded for possible digital preservation in the future.

As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement over a recent development. Not long ago, we bid farewell to MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a staple that delighted visitors for an impressive 34 years. Being the last production overseen by the legendary Jim Henson himself, this show has always occupied a hallowed spot in Disney’s history. Now, it seems that its legacy might live on in the digital world.
Disney Quietly Prepping the Way for a Comeback?
Although a virtual reality adaptation is undeniably thrilling, fans shouldn’t discard the possibility of a real-life return to the parks. In fact, That Park Place has exclusively revealed that MuppetVision 3D might be on the brink of a physical comeback, although it may not reappear in its original spot.
It’s being speculated, from someone with knowledge of the situation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that there are discussions about moving the attraction to another theater within the park. The Villains Theater, which currently hosts Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, has been suggested as a potential new location for the Muppets. This shift could be due to the less than favorable response from guests to the recent show.

The Villains Theater and the previous site of MuppetVision 3D both hold a common characteristic: they can accommodate the same number of spectators, making the theater an appealing choice for MuppetVision 3D’s potential comeback. Additionally, the theater is situated right next to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which Disney has announced will be revamped into The Muppets theme in 2026. According to reports from That Park Place, discussions have occurred about transforming the area into a fresh Muppets Courtyard, with MuppetVision 3D serving as its focal point.

Disney is meticulously preserving various elements from the original show, such as props, set pieces, and decorations. It’s unclear if these items are being stored for a potential new setup or just archival purposes, but the careful conservation indicates that there might be something more significant happening than mere nostalgic hoarding.
Disney Already Teased Preservation Plans
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but speculate about the potential future of the beloved MuppetVision 3D. Given that Disney has previously hinted at this possibility in their official communications as far back as November 2024, when they announced the show’s discontinuation, it seems quite plausible that they might choose to preserve and potentially reimagine this classic experience.

In the current scenario, Disney expressed that they will be progressing with these adjustments while engaging in imaginative discussions and investigating methods to maintain the movie and other aspects of the experience for fans to savor in the times ahead.
Afterward, there was a private filming event for Cast Members, which they called “Archiving MuppetVision 3D.” This suggests that Disney might genuinely be committed to preserving the history of this attraction.
What Comes Next?
At the moment, there hasn’t been any official word if MuppetVision 3D will make a comeback in its physical form, digitally, or possibly both. However, Lisa Henson’s VR announcement and the exclusive reporting by That Park Place about potential relocation plans hint that MuppetVision 3D might not be done and dusted yet.
Will it be that spectators might don a VR headset someday to encounter the witty heckling of Waldorf and Statler, or perhaps visit a novel theater neighboring a Muppet-themed rollercoaster, either way, the meaning remains unchanged.
The Muppets aren’t done yet.

Stay tuned to That Park Place as we continue to follow this developing story.
