Much-loved detective series ‘unlike anything else on TV’ just confirmed its return date
Quirky detective show Poker Face has received a premiere date for season 2.
Developed by the filmmaker behind Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, this series revolves around a character who has a remarkable ability to detect lies.
She journeys throughout the U.S., evading a ruthless crime lord. Tragic incidents occur mysteriously wherever she goes, yet she feels compelled to unravel each puzzle.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but feel excited about the freshly unveiled trailer hinting at Season 2, set to kick off in the US on May 8th, exclusively on Peacock. Unfortunately, we UK gamers are still waiting for an official release date, which is a bit of a bummer.
The trailer also offers sneak peeks at some of the numerous stars appearing in this season, such as Cynthia Erivo from Wicked, comedian John Mulaney, Giancarlo Esposito known for Captain America: Brave New World, Awkwafina from Quiz Lady, and Kumail Nanjiani of The Boys, among others.
The show that received a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes (initially, based on season 1 alone) isn’t just a collection of well-known personalities. Critics have described it as “unique in the TV landscape”, “both intricate and comical”, “hard to resist”, and “a magnificent homage” to shows such as Columbo.
In the critique by Digital Spy, we commended it for its ability to resemble films such as Knives Out in the way it refreshes common genres like a murder mystery by incorporating cleverness, intellectual depth, and unpredictable twists, resulting in a production that is both traditionally appealing and uniquely innovative.
Our review states: “Primarily, the show serves as an excellent platform for Natasha Lyonne’s characteristic mix of foul language, cynicism, and warmth.” However, it offers much more than just this. It reminds us that television series, when done right, can truly excel!
In the United States, Poker Face’s second season kicks off on May 8th exclusively on Peacock. For viewers in the UK, the show airs on Sky Atlantic and can be streamed on Sky Go/NOW, but as of now, a premiere date for season 2 has not been announced.
