MTV’s Matt Pinfield Thrives After Stroke: His Shocking Recovery Will Leave You Speechless!
MTV VJ Matt Pinfield has issued a new health update just months after suffering a massive stroke.
In early January, the man who gained fame for hosting MTV’s 120 Minutes in the 1980s and 1990s, aged 63, experienced a stroke that came close to being fatal.
Due to the severe impact of the stroke, Jessica, his daughter, petitioned for a short-term guardianship too, since her father, Pinfield, appears incapable of making decisions at this time.
The documents indicated that Jessica, Matt, and their sibling Maya expressed concern over his girlfriend gaining access to his accounts at the present time.
In my own journey, I found myself slipping into a coma at one point, but I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been making a remarkable recovery. If you remember, back in March, I had an incredible revelation to share with The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m alive! I’m recovering and getting ready to bounce back stronger than ever.”
During those challenging two months, my loved ones were unsure if they were saying their goodbyes. The medical professionals, too, didn’t anticipate that I would regain the ability to speak or walk again. But here I am, proving them wrong and continuing on this incredible journey of life.
Currently, Pinfield has provided a fresh update regarding his X page, verifying the report that he will preside over the Hollywood Walk of Fame event for Green Day on Thursday.

He posted a picture of a news article stating that it was surprising, given Pinfield had a stroke at the start of the year and only recently regained consciousness from a multi-month coma.
> Pinfield posted, ‘Gradually getting better… Lots of rehabilitation sessions… Working hard to return! Day by day.’
In 2017, before experiencing a stroke, Pinfield had been admitted to a rehabilitation center where he dealt with both substance addiction and cardiac problems.
Approximately a year ago, he came close to losing his life when a car hit him as he walked across the road, which was near his residence in Hollywood.
He was hit by a car traveling above 40 mph, resulting in a fracture in two spots on his leg and a deep cut on his head that penetrated his skull. Upon impact, he collided with the windshield first, then the road surface.
Upon awakening from my coma in March, I expressed my gratitude towards my daughter Jessica, who facilitated a short conservatorship I heartily appreciated.
‘She’s the one who saved my life. She protected me,’ Pinfield said of his daughter’s actions.
He expressed his heartfelt appreciation towards everyone who sent him well wishes. The support from the community was instrumental in helping him overcome this difficult time.

He mentioned that he plans to take a break for some rest first. Afterward, he’ll return to hosting his radio shows and continue doing what brings him joy – sharing music with others.
In the 1980s, Pinfield initially embarked on his professional journey as a disc jockey based on the East Coast. Later, he made his debut on MTV during a 1992 episode of The Real World, where he conducted an interview with the dance group Reigndance.
3 years passed, and then he became the host of 120 Minutes on MTV2, a position he held from 1995 to 1999, and again from 2011 to 2013.
He was announced as the drive-time DJ for the Los Angeles-based radio station KCSN in March 2024.
