MSNBC’s post-Joy Reid era begins with hiring of Politico veteran Eugene Daniels
Eugene Daniels, a White House correspondent for Politico, is joining MSNBC full-time as a host.
On Mondays, it was revealed that “The Weekend” news program on the channel owned by Comcast Corporation has added Daniels, aged 36, to its morning lineup. Airing every Saturday and Sunday, he will work alongside journalist Jonathan Capehart from The Washington Post and another co-host yet to be named.
Originally hosted by Michael Steele, Alicia Menendez, and Symone Sanders-Townsend on “The Weekend,” the show is shifting to the 7 p.m. Eastern weekday time slot previously occupied by Joy Reid as of late April. The revamped program will then commence.
Daniels is taking on the role of Senior Washington Correspondent at MSNBC, as this network establishes its independent news division, having been associated with NBC News since its inception in 1996.
He’s the initial appointment from an external source under MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler, who is spearheading the news network during its transition to a new company, which has been separated from Comcast.
Daniel has served as a contributor for MSNBC since the year 2021, frequently appearing on “Morning Joe.” He is set to depart from Politico to assume his latest position instead.

Jen Psaki will be hosting four days per week now that Rachel Maddow is reducing her schedule to just one day (Mondays). Unfortunately, Joy Reid’s program has been discontinued.
In the year 2018, Daniels became part of Politico. Since then, he has been one of the authors for their well-liked morning newsletter called “Politico Playbook.” Presently, he holds the position as President of the White House Correspondents Association; a role that he was chosen for last year.
Originally from Texas, Daniels earned his degree from Colorado State University, playing as a defensive end for their football team during his studies.
Although Reid was known as the network’s most liberal host on MSNBC, her exit won’t necessarily mean a shift in the network’s overall direction. MSNBC has a strong base of supporters among progressive politics, suggesting that they maintain a steadfast allegiance to their ideology.
After hosting his weekend MSNBC show from 2020, Capehart is moving on to join “The Weekend” team. His current program, which was also aired by Katie Phang and Ayman Mohyeldin, will conclude when the network introduces its new broadcast schedule.
In the upcoming version of “The Weekend,” Mohyeldin is set to join the evening team, while Phang continues his role as a legal analyst for MSNBC.
