MSNBC has set a date for its new name.
Beginning November 15th, the cable news channel known for its progressive viewpoints will rebrand as MS NOW, which stands for My Source, News, Opinion, and World. The channel will also update its logo, removing the familiar NBC peacock.
People began noticing advertisements for the new name on Monday, using the slogan “Same mission, New name.” According to a memo from MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler obtained by The Times, a more extensive marketing campaign will launch in the coming weeks.
The change in branding happens as Comcast splits off its NBCUniversal cable channels into a new company called Versant. This new company will include channels like CNBC, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, SyFy, and E!
Okay, so Comcast is essentially getting rid of these channels because they think traditional cable TV is dying, and these networks are dragging down the company’s value. It’s a smart move, honestly. They’re spinning these channels off into a new, publicly traded company called Versant – and get this, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts will own a huge chunk of it, about a third of the shares. You’ll be able to find Versant trading on the NASDAQ under the symbol VSNT.

Although MSNBC has been planning a new show for several months, they hadn’t mentioned it much on the air until recently. At a fan event held earlier this month at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, the network prominently featured its logo and speakers repeatedly alluded to the upcoming change.
The shift meant MSNBC had to separate its news coverage from NBC News, which had been providing reporters to the channel. Several of those NBC News correspondents, like Jacob Soboroff and Ken Dilanian, then decided to join Versant.

The data analyst, known for wearing khaki pants, has a new agreement that lets him work on projects for different networks and media companies, as long as those projects aren’t about politics or sports.
MSNBC’s regular opinion hosts—like Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Nicolle Wallace, Ari Melber, Rachel Maddow, Jen Psaki, and Lawrence O’Donnell—will all be moving to the new platform, MS NOW.
At first, MSNBC staff were informed the network would keep its name. However, NBCUniversal later decided it didn’t want its brand associated with a network it didn’t fully own.

Versant CEO Mark Lazarus urged his team to stay positive and adapt, even though launching a new brand is difficult with so many different media options available.
In an August memo, Lazarus explained that this change allows them to define their own future, develop a unique brand, and build a completely separate news organization after the split.
MSNBC’s Washington news team has recently reported several important stories, such as the indictments of James Comey, the former FBI Director, and John Bolton, who previously served as national security advisor.
MSNBC also has a multiyear agreement with U.K.-based Sky News to provide international coverage.
