ITV has now revealed that the film will air on Monday, September 9, at 9pm.
ITV’s Factual Controller Jo Clinton-Davis stated that “the Post Office scandal emerged as a significant national conversation topic early this year, touching upon people’s feelings of fairness and justice.”
Since then, the ripples have extended throughout the political sphere and significantly impacted those most directly involved. This movie aims to narrate the events that unfolded since in their lives, highlighting their ongoing struggle and shedding light on fresh aspects of this scandal.
The real-life scandal saw hundreds of subpostmasters falsely accused of theft, false accounting or fraud due to a faulty IT system, with Bates (played by Toby Jones) leading their fight for justice.
In its premiere in January, the new ITV drama titled “Mr Bates vs The Post Office” became their most successful new series in more than ten years, drawing an average audience of approximately 9.8 million viewers throughout all episodes upon its airing.
After achieving great results, ITV has gone ahead and ordered a fresh true-to-life drama series based on the tainted blood scandal, with “Scoop” author Peter Moffat penning it.
The broadcast of Mr. Bates versus The Post Office is scheduled on ITV1 and can also be streamed on ITVX, airing on September 9 at 9pm.
