Week 6 opening matches are postponed due to the typhoon.
Fans are disappointed to learn that the first day of Week 6 matches for MPL PH Season 16 has been postponed. The official announcement states this is because of safety concerns related to Tropical Storm Opong.
The league decided to postpone the games on the first day of Week 6, following advice from PAGASA and its safety team. Games scheduled for the remaining two days of the week will continue as usual.
MPL Philippines postponed Week 6 opener due to safety concerns
Severe Tropical Storm Opong (known internationally as Bualoi) is getting stronger over the Philippine Sea. Current forecasts suggest it could make landfall in the Bicol region around September 26, 2025, and nearby areas are likely to experience impacts. Interestingly, this is also the day MPL PH Season 16 Week 6 is scheduled to begin.
MPL Philippines announced that the first day of Week 6 has been postponed due to the weather forecast.
We’ve made this decision following advice from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) and our Safety Team. The well-being of our teams, staff, and fans is our top priority. We’ll share details about the rescheduled games and tickets soon.

Although the first day has been delayed, the committee confirmed that matches planned for September 27th and 28th will still take place. The league will continue to watch the weather closely and make sure everyone’s safety comes first.
Community reacts to postponed MPL PH Season 16 Week 6 opener
MPL Philippines’ recent announcement caused a lot of discussion among fans. Many suggested holding all matches online, arguing that teams could continue playing from their practice facilities, keeping the season on track and maintaining viewer interest.
Look, I get why people are suggesting playing the tournament online with the typhoon coming, but honestly, I’m a little worried about it. Some fans have pointed out that Typhoon Opong could knock out the power or mess up internet connections, and they’re totally right. Remember when MPL Philippines was fully online? We were *constantly* dealing with pauses because of connection issues. Trying to run a tournament online during a storm just feels like asking for even more problems. It’s a risk I’m not sure is worth taking.
Look, everyone has their own thoughts on whether the event should’ve been delayed, but honestly, nobody’s arguing that safety isn’t the most important thing. Seriously, no game – whether we’re playing in person or online – is worth putting anyone at risk, players, staff, or fans. With Typhoon Opong coming down on us and potentially messing everything up, the smart thing to do is just stay safe and keep an eye on official updates.
