2026 promises a lot of exciting new movies, including titles like Avengers: Doomsday, Scream 7, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, as well as Supergirl. While the year looks great for film fans, some previously expected movies won’t be coming out until later.
As a huge movie fan, it’s always a bummer when films get pushed back. I remember a while ago, a bunch of movies were actually set to come out in 2026 – some even had firm dates! But then, for various reasons – whether it was trouble with the story, clashes with other productions, or just things taking longer than expected – they were pulled from the schedule. Now, instead of seeing them this year, we’re looking at 2027 or even further out. It’s disappointing, but hopefully, the extra time means they’ll be even better when they finally arrive!
Several upcoming movies have had their release dates pushed back, including new Disney films, a Star Wars movie, and unannounced Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Sequels to well-known animated franchises are also affected. Additionally, Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II, originally planned for release this fall, and a new horror film by Jordan Peele have been delayed.
I know great movies aren’t made overnight, and honestly, I’m totally fine waiting as long as it takes for these upcoming films to be perfect. Let the filmmakers work their magic! But while we’re all patiently counting down the days, it’s fun to think about what 2026 could have looked like if these movies hadn’t been delayed.
9 Movies That Got Delayed From Their 2026 Release Dates

Shrek 5
The fifth Shrek movie, originally planned for release in July 2026, will now arrive in theaters on June 30, 2027. The film has been delayed twice, first to December 23, 2026, and now to 2027. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are all returning to voice Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey. The delay is likely due to wanting a stronger box office performance, avoiding competition with other big films like Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part 3. Some also speculate the extra time will allow the animators to refine the character designs, potentially addressing any fan concerns, similar to what happened with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Frozen III
Currently, Frozen III is scheduled to come out on November 24, 2027, but the release date has changed. Originally, the sequel to 2019’s Frozen II was planned for November 2026, but it was delayed in 2024. In 2025, Kristen Bell, who stars in the film, mentioned that production would start shortly, explaining that Disney takes a lot of time perfecting the script, which is why their movies are so successful.

The Batman – Part II
The next Batman movie, a sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film, has faced several delays. Originally planned for October 2026, the release date was moved to October 1, 2027, to allow time for script completion. Work on the script was slowed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes, but it was finished in the summer of 2025. Filming is now expected to begin this spring.

Untitled Rey Star Wars Film
A new Star Wars movie focusing on Rey, a character from the recent Disney sequels, was first revealed at a Star Wars event in Europe in spring 2023. It was originally planned to come out on December 18, 2026, but in November 2024, Disney removed it from the release schedule, and a new date hasn’t been announced yet. The film is still reportedly being developed and will follow Rey as she tries to create a new generation of Jedi after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Untitled Jordan Peele Film
Jordan Peele’s next movie, currently without a title, was initially planned for release in fall 2026, but Universal Pictures has removed it from their schedule. As of late 2025, production hasn’t started, and no information about the cast or plot has been revealed. The film is expected to be a horror-thriller and remains in development. Peele mentioned in 2024 that he hopes it will be his best film yet.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2
The next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a sequel to 2023’s Mutant Mayhem, was originally planned for release on October 9, 2026. However, Paramount Pictures has delayed the release to September 17, 2027. The film will feature the turtles battling Shredder.

Untitled Disney Movie
In late 2025, Disney removed two movies from its planned 2026 schedule. Originally, these unnamed films were set to be released on September 11th and November 6th, 2026. Disney hasn’t shared any details about these projects, and they are no longer listed on the company’s release calendar.

Ice Age: Boiling Point
The new Ice Age movie, Ice Age: Boiling Point, is now scheduled to be released on February 5, 2027. It was originally planned for December 18, 2026, but the release date was moved in August 2025. This shift happened after the release of Avengers: Doomsday was also set for December 18, 2026. Boiling Point will be the sixth film in the Ice Age series, and it’s been over ten years since the last installment, Ice Age: Collision Course, came out.

Untitled Marvel Studios Film
In May 2025, Marvel Studios delayed an unnamed film that was originally scheduled for release on February 13, 2026. It’s unknown which movie was affected or if filming had started. As of now, the only Marvel Cinematic Universe films planned for 2026 are Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July and Avengers: Doomsday in December.
TV Shows Coming to an End in 2026

1. Good Omens
Following accusations against its creator, Neil Gaiman, the show Good Omens will conclude with a 90-minute finale episode instead of a traditional third season. Filming wrapped up in 2025, and the episode is expected to be released sometime in 2026. Michael Sheen, who stars in the Amazon Prime series about an angel and a demon teaming up to stop the end of the world, shared that while the finale wasn’t as long as planned, it’s “brilliantly directed” and features “beautiful performances.” He also hinted at the inclusion of nightingales. Good Omens originally premiered on the streaming service in 2019.

2. Outer Banks
The popular Netflix series Outer Banks, a teen adventure-drama filmed in North Carolina and centered around a treasure hunt, will conclude with its fifth and final season in 2026. Filming finished in late 2025. Actor Chase Stokes told People magazine that he and the cast are grateful for the show’s success and feel it’s time to bring the story to a satisfying close. Outer Banks first debuted on Netflix in April 2020.

3. The Comeback
Lisa Kudrow’s comedy series, The Comeback, will return for a third and final season in 2026. The show, which originally aired on HBO in 2005 and 2014, satirizes the world of television through Kudrow’s character, Valerie Cherish, a sitcom actress. Kudrow recently told W magazine that the new season won’t rely on surprise celebrity appearances, but will feature a strong cast of talented actors. HBO renewed the show for its final season last summer.

4. Yellowjackets
The hit survival thriller Yellowjackets, which first aired in 2021, is scheduled to conclude with its fourth and final season on Showtime around late 2026. The show follows a high school girls’ soccer team whose plane crashes in the wilderness, forcing them to resort to extreme measures – including cannibalism – to survive. Originally intended to run for five seasons, creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson recently announced they’ve decided to wrap up the story after three seasons, bringing the intense and shocking narrative to a close with the upcoming fourth season.

5. Hacks
The comedy-drama Hacks will conclude with its fifth and final season on HBO Max sometime in 2026. The show, which premiered in 2021, centers on the relationship between a veteran comedian and her driven young writer. Creator Hannah Einbinder shared last year that while it’s sad to see the show end, she believes it’s the right decision. She feels it’s best to finish while the show is still strong and avoid overstaying its welcome. The renewal for this final season was announced in May 2025.

6. Outlander
The popular time-travel romance series Outlander will end its run this year with its eighth and final season. The show premiered in 2014 and will conclude the story of Claire and Jamie in a 10-episode season airing through May 2026. In an interview with People, star Sam Heughan expressed hope that viewers will feel the series did justice to the characters, story, and fans. He acknowledged the difficulty of ending such a beloved show, especially since the series won’t follow the books exactly, but emphasized that the creators wanted to provide a satisfying conclusion.

7. Queer Eye
The popular Netflix series Queer Eye, a revival of the original 2003 show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, will conclude with its tenth season, premiering January 21st. The heartwarming reality show first launched on Netflix in 2018. When the final season was announced last year, beauty expert Jonathan Van Ness shared on Instagram how thrilled the team was to share it and to begin their next chapter.

8. All American
The CW’s sports drama All American, which is based on the life of football player Spencer Paysinger, will conclude with its eighth season in 2026. The show, a surprise success since its 2018 debut, is wrapping up after six seasons. Actor Daniel Ezra recently shared with People magazine that he’s heard the final season is incredibly moving and emotional, with many people involved already shedding tears over the ending.

9. The Boys
The popular dark superhero series The Boys, based on the comic books of the same name, debuted on Amazon Prime in 2019. The show follows a team of vigilantes as they battle corrupt superheroes controlled by a powerful corporation. The fifth and final season will arrive on April 8, 2026, bringing the story of Hughie, Billy Butcher, Starlight, Homelander, and the others to a close. Last year, the showrunner Eric Kripke described the final season as a “gory, epic, moist climax” in a social media post.

10. Ridiculousness
After 14 years and 46 seasons, MTV will stop making new episodes of the comedy clip show Ridiculousness, hosted by Rob Dyrdek, starting in 2025. The show, which first aired in 2011, will continue to air finished episodes through 2026, and reruns will likely remain on MTV. Dyrdek explained the cancellation in a social media video, calling it “divine timing” as he focuses on better managing his time and priorities.
