As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS2), I have to admit that I’ve been keeping a close eye on Mousesports (MOUZ) and their star player, Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin. I remember the whispers about their stage-chokers reputation, but their performance at IEM Cologne has silenced many of those naysayers.
The Swedish rifler thinks their deep run at IEM Cologne is enough to dismiss the stage-chokers thesis.
Despite consistently dominating CS2 LAN tournaments and being recognized among the top global teams, MOUZ and Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin have unfortunately acquired the label of being ‘stage chokers’.
The primary reason for this is that since the game’s launch in late 2023, all CS2 tournaments won by teams MOUZ and Brollan have been either online events with no live audience or small ones such as the ESL Pro League competitions. However, as per Brollan, team MOUZ managed to shake off their stage-chokers reputation at IEM Cologne just recently.
The Lanxess Arena, famously dubbed the “Sanctuary of Counter-Strike,” was buzzing with spectators, even though MOUZ didn’t secure the victory, they managed an impressive advancement that ended in the semifinals against Natus Vincere.
In the BetBoom Dacha CS2 2024 event in Belgrade, Serbia, Brollan said to Xpsp that our team demonstrated in Cologne that we’re not prone to stage fright. He added that we just need to enhance our performance during games and, of course, he believes we have the potential to advance further in tournaments. In Cologne, we were determined to progress gradually, and we emerged victorious on a massive stage.
What about BetBoom Dacha?
MOUZ were among the later teams to arrive at BetBoom Dacha in Belgrade, as they bypassed the play-in stage, similar to Team Spirit, HEROIC, and Virtus.pro. Previously, these international players had emerged victorious in the tournament’s inaugural edition in May, defeating Spirit to claim the championship title.
MOUZ are feeling confident they can do it again this time around, according to Brollan.
Indeed, Brollan agreed. He felt they were doing well and found fewer top contenders present. He believed they had much to showcase and could potentially secure consecutive victories.
On August 28, Brollan and MOUZ will begin their tournament at BetBoom Dacha in the preliminary round of the upper bracket.
