Motor City Machine Guns and Lucha Bros would bring a much needed boost to WWE
As a lifelong wrestling enthusiast who’s seen my fair share of tag team dynamics, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the rumors swirling around WWE. The potential addition of Motor City Machine Guns and Lucha Brothers could be a game-changer for the tag divisions that have been somewhat overlooked in recent times.
As a dedicated gamer of virtual wrestling, I’ve been noticing a lot of chatter about tag team wrestling, with both AEW and WWE at the center of it all. It seems like the leading promotions in North American wrestling have struggled to shine a spotlight on their tag divisions as much as they should. In WWE, the tag titles often take a backseat in major storylines, acting more like secondary props. However, things might be about to change in the world of WWE, as there’s been a buzz that two top-tier teams in the industry are planning a move.
Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous contradictory stories circulating about the Motor City Machine Guns and Lucha Brothers. As recently as August 13th, Fightful Select claimed that Penta and Rey Fenix seem to be on their way to WWE. This statement followed a period of uncertainty about whether the pair would indeed join, allegations of contract violations, false rumors, and many other issues. Reportedly, Pentagon has already discussed potential opportunities with WWE, and they have also shown interest in Fenix.
Speculation about Motor City Machine Guns’ future has been running wild. Their contracts with TNA Wrestling expired on April 1, 2024, leading many to believe they would join AEW, considering their previous appearance there in 2022. Yet, whispers started circulating that they might instead sign with WWE. So far, no official news has emerged since the initial speculation, but fans from both wrestling companies are eagerly anticipating their potential appearances in either promotion.
Introducing MCMG and Lucha Brothers into the WWE tag division is a significant enhancement, particularly since this segment could benefit from it. Despite some shortcomings in booking strategies, the WWE tag team scene is brimming with talented duos. Teams such as DIY, The Creed Brothers, Legado del Fantasma, New Catch Republic, Pretty Deadly, The Street Profits, The New Day, Axiom and Nathan Frazer, and numerous others are excited to have them join their ranks.
The aim is for MCMG and Lucha Brothers to be used in a way that highlights their skills while also adding some thrill to the tag team divisions. Essentially, this could be their last opportunity to gain fan and viewer trust that there’s purpose behind the tag team division bookings. If the Lucha Bros get involved in storylines with other Latino wrestlers or MCMG are made to lose to less popular groups, fans will undoubtedly express their disapproval. And they would be justified in doing so.
Despite the current situation, there’s optimism that if these four men from MCMG and Lucha Bros join WWE, they will inject vitality into that platform. As units and as solo performers, they are among the top talents in wrestling today, and their addition would significantly strengthen any roster.
