Authorities have identified the woman who died by suicide at David Harbour’s apartment as a rising hip hop artist. This is the first time her identity has been publicly revealed, and reports have described her as having personal struggles.

In September 2015, Christin Croft, then 29 years old, was staying at the New York City home of Lily Allen’s husband while he was working in Canada.

I was devastated to hear about her passing, and at first, details were really limited. The police said they didn’t think anything criminal had happened, but later they couldn’t officially say how she died – even though a note was found at his apartment. It’s just…so unclear, and incredibly sad.

Croft died after falling from a fire escape on the third floor. Before she met Harbour, who was becoming a well-known actor on Broadway, she had been having trouble finding housing.

The recent release of Allen’s new album, ‘West End Girl’, has renewed interest in her unexplained death.

The song ‘Py Palace’ likely references her partner’s apartment in New York City’s West Village, an area where actor Paul Mescal, age 50, is known to own property. However, the incident involving Croft did not happen at that particular apartment.

Allen sings, ‘Stay away tonight, I don’t want you here.’ He tells the person to go to the apartment in the West Village instead.

Some of the songs detail a difficult divorce and instances of infidelity. In an interview, she shared that the album draws heavily from personal experiences, saying, ‘This record definitely reflects things that happened in my life.’

Allen’s new album, her first in seven years, quickly reached number one on the UK iTunes chart and has already been streamed over eight million times.

The album’s 14 tracks are thought to tell the story of her troubled five-year marriage to Justin Harbour, portraying him as someone with infidelity issues. While discussing the album, she admitted to Interview magazine that it contains a mix of real events and fictional storytelling.

Recent focus on Harbour’s private life is said to have brought up difficult memories for people who knew Croft.

According to a source at the Daily Mail, the popularity of Allen’s new album was upsetting Croft’s daughter, and the family was thinking about contacting him after it came out.

Marlon Martindale, 47, Duana’s husband and Croft’s cousin-in-law, said police first told the family that Croft had died by suicide. This was surprising, as she had seemed happy and well in the days leading up to her death, according to the Daily Mail.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this case closely, and what’s been reported is quite puzzling. While I haven’t personally heard about any suicide note, the individual who last spoke with her shared that she seemed to be doing well and was in good spirits. It’s a confusing detail, and definitely something investigators will need to explore further.

Honestly, I’ve been digging into everything about her life since… and apparently, before she passed, Jen was always trying to connect with actors. A family friend told me she was constantly ‘networking,’ really trying to meet guys who were on the rise, you know, before they became huge stars. It’s just… so Jen. Always looking for the next big thing, and maybe, just maybe, hoping to be part of it.

Croft’s social media reveals a woman struggling with personal challenges while pursuing her passion for a career in the industry.

In a post written just before she died, she described herself as a broken person struggling to survive. She felt some things were beyond fixing and that life was incredibly difficult, hinting she was ready to give up.

Relatives confirm Croft had long struggled with her mental health and had been taking medication. 

According to Martindale, Christin fell to her death from David Harbour’s apartment in 2015. She had been battling mental health issues and was working to improve her life.

He said her daughter was being looked after by relatives at the time. 

She was dedicated to rebuilding her relationship with her daughter and working hard to regain that special mother-daughter connection when she unexpectedly passed away.

She talked about a friend who lived in a great apartment in Manhattan and worked as an actor. She said she often spent time at their place, sometimes even staying over when they were out late.

Oh my gosh, they were so close! It was amazing to watch them build each other up. He was always introducing her to everyone he knew in the industry – actors, musicians, the works! And she? She was a total go-getter, constantly working the room, trying to connect with rappers, singers, producers, directors… anyone who could help her break into the business. She was just so determined and friendly, always making connections!

‘That’s how they met, through that circle.’

Martindale said that Croft denied having a romantic relationship with the Stranger Things star.

‘She was a socialite, an event promoter – she just wanted to be seen,’ he added.

Harbour explained he was assisting a friend who was going through a difficult period and needed support.

He shared with the New York Daily News that she had been going through a difficult time and was staying in a homeless shelter. He explained he was attempting to assist her.

However, Martindale told the Daily Mail that wasn’t true. He explained that Christin had many options for where to live, wasn’t relying on shelters as her ex claimed, and often stayed with family or while working on her recordings.

The 50-year-old actor was in Toronto for the premiere of his movie, Black Mass, when he learned about Croft’s death. Authorities later revealed she had struggled with mental health problems.

Harbour expressed his confusion and shock, stating he couldn’t understand how this tragedy occurred. He described the victim as a kind person and said he was deeply upset by the news.

You know, after a bit of a low profile following the album release, I was so happy to hear the actor was spotted having some fun at Universal Orlando’s new Epic Universe! Apparently, he was all smiles, chatting with fans, and, even more sweetly, treating Allen’s daughters, Ethel and Marnie, to a fantastic day out. It’s lovely to see him enjoying some quality family time.

The actor, trying to stay low-key with a bucket hat, was spotted waiting in line for rides, chatting and laughing with fans, and even carrying a tray of theme park food as he navigated the crowds.

People who saw him said he seemed calm and happy, even though he’d been getting a lot of negative attention online after Allen’s album came out.

Lily Allen and her husband got married in Las Vegas in 2020, a year after they first met. Her two daughters, Ethel and Marnie (ages 13 and 12), from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper, were there with her.

By the end of 2023, their marriage had fallen apart, and Allen supposedly filed for divorce in September.

I’ve been listening to Lily Allen’s podcast, ‘Miss Me?’, and it’s heartbreaking hearing her talk about her relationship with David Harbour. She revealed, in an episode recorded before they separated, that he’d previously said he didn’t want children. It’s complicated because she’s also spoken so warmly about him being a wonderful stepfather, which makes this all the more sad to hear.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Hopper was asked if she would still play a parental role in her two daughters’ lives after her split from Harbour. She responded by saying people would need to ask Harbour directly.

Before their breakup, Woody Allen shared on his podcast, ‘Miss Me?’, that he hadn’t considered having children until he met his then-partner.

David Harbour became well-known in 2016 for his role as Jim Hopper, the strong and dependable police chief, in the hit series Stranger Things. Hopper acted as a father figure to Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.

Harbour’s rep did not immediately return Daily Mail’s calls for comment.
