Mortal Kombat’s klassic games return in the Legacy Kollection

This year, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will be released, offering almost all that one might desire.

As a dedicated fan, I can recall the disappointment that followed the supposed end of Mortal Kombat 1. The future of our beloved franchise was uncertain then. Yet, at State of Play 2025, we were treated to an exciting new development! Digital Eclipse, the developer, announced the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection – a collection that brings together almost every classic game from this iconic series spanning 30 years.

Although it wasn’t a sequel in the series, the announcement thrilled most fans who are eager to play games such as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 online. This article covers all the details about the Legacy Collection.

This Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection includes nearly every classic title

Numerous enthusiasts of the series, ranging from longtime fans to newcomers, often look back fondly on the original Mortal Kombat games. Besides the AI that was sometimes over-the-top, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Mortal Kombat 3 paved the way for what is now a legendary video game series in history.

Purchasing the Legacy Kollection opens up the opportunity to play not only these specific games but also additional titles such as the challenging Game Boy Advance version of UMK3, which some might consider a classic yet daunting port.

Here is a list of the confirmed titles included in the bundle per PlayStation:

  • Mortal Kombat – 1992: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear
  • Mortal Kombat II -1993: Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X
  • Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES, Genesis
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995: Arcade, SNES
  • Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997: Arcade
  • Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001: Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002: Game Boy Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003: Game Boy Advance
  • ???

Digital Eclipse, known for preserving classic games, chose not to add the question marks; instead, they purposefully left the remaining titles vague for the gaming community. Many fans have pondered if these might encompass Mortal Kombat: Deception, Armageddon, and potentially the 2011 remake.

You can play all of these MK games online

As a devoted fan, the prospect of revisiting the classic Mortal Kombat 2 in 2025 gets me all excited! But And to make it even better, the trailer hints at using rollback netcode for the online play. This means a seamless gaming experience that I can’t wait to dive into!

As a gamer, I can confidently say that I’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the online multiplayer experience across all games in our collection. This includes the classic Mortal Kombat Advance, along with the versions for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis platforms.

Mortal Kombat’s various “secrets” will be unlocked in the Legacy Kollection

One section of the Digital Eclipse blog post discusses the numerous hidden aspects of Mortal Kombat. The writer clarified, “We’re offering you an all-access pass to everything within these games, no need for secret codes or memorization.” Essentially, players can effortlessly activate the concealed fights and characters in the game.

It seems the article didn’t explain the functioning of this new feature, however, it did mention that we won’t have to wait much longer for its details to become public knowledge.

What could the mystery games be?

The final point of interest to discuss is the hidden games developed by Digital Eclipse, which we’ve been aware of ranging from Mortal Kombat (1992) up to Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition (2003). However, there were a few titles that didn’t make it into the list.

Among some notable omissions in the list are Gold, Trilogy, Deception, Shaolin Monks, and Armageddon. It’s possible that titles such as Mortal Kombat Gold and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which are essentially enhanced editions of existing games, were overlooked.

As the clock ticks down, we eagerly await the arrival of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Digital Eclipse hasn’t given us an exact date yet, but it’s safe to say we can expect it before the end of the year.
