On Instagram, Karl Urban recently unveiled a fresh promotional image for Mortal Kombat 2, where he stars as Johnny Cage in an imaginary movie within the universe named “Unleashed Flame”.

The post, titled “UNLEASHED RAGE. Now in your video rental shop. Exclusively on VHS. MORTAL KOMBAT II. Coming to theaters October 24, 2025,” features a vintage-inspired image of Cage and has received more than 115,000 likes.

In the promotional efforts for Mortal Kombat 2, the made-up movie Uncaged Fury is included, which satirically outlines Johnny Cage’s professional journey in an IMDb-like listing that doesn’t exist.

On that particular webpage, Johnny Cage (his real name is Jonathan Carlton) is portrayed as a skilled martial artist and action movie star. He gained fame through films like “Uncaged Fury,” “Hard to Cage,” and “Rebel Without a Cage,” among others. The site also mentions awards he’s won, such as the Best Sunglasses award, and offers fictional details such as quotes like “I’m Johnny F—— Cage.

Ed Boon, one of the creators of Mortal Kombat, hinted at the upcoming project on platform X (previously known as Twitter), sharing a message that read, “It needs to be impressive.” Accompanying this was an image resembling a movie poster from the ’90s action genre. Fans have shown excitement, complimenting the creative approach and its nostalgic feel reminiscent of 90s action movies.

Responses to Urban’s post feature jokes, as one individual quips, “Turn them into brothers,” while another queries whether the Taj Mahal can be seen in the picture’s backdrop.

On October 24, 2025, Mortal Kombat 2 will hit the big screen. The lineup includes Karl Urban portraying Johnny Cage, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, with Jessica McNamee reprising her role as Sonya Blade and Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Scorpion. This film is part of a three-part series in development, serving as the second installment. It follows the narrative established by the 2021 movie, which introduced the Mortal Kombat tournament.
