Fans of Mortal Kombat can now find Shao Khan-themed popcorn buckets! The popular fighting game series is getting another boost this year with a sequel to the 2021 movie. Warner Bros. will preview Mortal Kombat 2 at CinemaCon as the May 8th release date approaches. The film continues the story of Earthrealm’s heroes battling the forces of Outworld, led by the villainous Shao Khan, in a crucial tournament.
TopMob got a first look at the merchandise coming with the new Mortal Kombat 2 movie at CinemaCon. Highlights included several items, but the standout was a “I Am Shao Khan” helmet. This helmet will be available for purchase at Cinemark, AMC Theaters, and Regal Cinemas.

The special edition popcorn bucket for Mortal Kombat 2 features Shao Kahn, the ruthless villain from the movie who wants to conquer Earthrealm. This year, the imposing 6’8″ Martyn Ford, a British bodybuilder known for his role in F9: The Fast Saga, will portray Shao Kahn by wearing a samurai skeleton mask.

As a movie and gaming fan, it’s wild to see how far Mortal Kombat has come! Now it’s a huge console franchise and a blockbuster movie, but I remember hearing it started as an arcade game back in ’92. It was actually created to go head-to-head with the incredibly popular Street Fighter II at the time – a real rivalry!
A special edition popcorn bucket for Mortal Kombat 2 is coming to AMC and Cinemark theaters. Designed like a classic green and black arcade machine, it’s called the “Test Your Might Tin” and pays homage to the game’s origins.

Fans who look closely at the dragon-decorated cup from Mortal Kombat 2 will notice a movie-style clapperboard inside. This clapperboard is a tribute to Karl Urban, who plays the new character Johnny Cage – and is also a skilled martial artist! It’s playfully inscribed with the message “To my biggest fan, Cage,” and it’s designed to hold popcorn.
I’m so excited about this new Cinemark clapper! It’s surprisingly big – it can actually hold a whole XL popcorn! And as far as I know, you can only get it at Cinemark. They’re even offering it as part of a combo with a large 44-ounce drink, which is a great deal if you’re a collector like me.

This Grippr cup, decorated with a dragon, glows a vibrant green and includes a topper showcasing a fierce battle scene from Mortal Kombat. The topper features the characters Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban, and Kitana, played by Adeline Rudolph.

Both Cinemark and Regal Cinemas will be selling special edition popcorn buckets for fans of Mortal Kombat. These buckets are green and feature a black dragon design inspired by the game’s logo.

With the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fans are now anticipating Mortal Kombat 2, which promises a very different experience. While Mario was lighthearted and family-friendly, Mortal Kombat 2 is shaping up to be a dark, violent, and R-rated action film. The movie will also introduce popular characters like Johnny Cage and the formidable Shao Kahn, and is expected to be a major video game adaptation, even exceeding the anticipation for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Besides the Mortal Kombat 2 merchandise, CinemaCon also offered a sneak peek at the impressive Masters of the Universe popcorn buckets. These buckets will feature designs celebrating both Skeletor and He-Man’s Power Sword.
