As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Mortal Kombat under my belt, I must admit that the reveal of Sektor as a female character has left me both surprised and intrigued. The decision to make her Madam Bo’s daughter adds an interesting twist to the storyline, and the hints about her armor being just the first step pique my curiosity.

In the upcoming scenario, Sektor is the next character set to be unveiled for Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios (NRS) has officially announced that the Sektor Khaos Reigns gameplay trailer will debut on September 4. This sneak peek is expected to offer a comprehensive overview of the character’s abilities and background.
Sektor is a female for the first time but is still evil
The choice made by NetherRealm in the Khaos Reigns DLC that sparked much debate was their decision to reimagine Cyrax and Sektor as female characters instead of male. Ever since Mortal Kombat 3, these two iconic figures were human males who underwent transformation into cyber ninjas through Lin Kuei’s Cyber Initiative. Despite the significant fan reaction against this change, it has been implemented nonetheless.
From the trailers for Cyrax and hints about Sektor, it appears that Sektor remains irredeemably evil, regardless of time or circumstance. Interestingly, Sektor was the one who trained and equipped Cyrax with the armor shown in the trailer. Despite this connection to the Lin Kuei, Cyrax stands as a character with strong moral principles.
Sektor is Madam Bo’s daughter in Mortal Kombat 1
In a recent sneak peek, Ed Boon shared details about Sektor’s past, disclosing that she is actually the child of Madam Bo. For those who might be unfamiliar, Madam Bo is a less prominent character introduced in the Mortal Kombat 1 narrative, offering guidance to warriors from Earthrealm. In the story, she also has connections with the Lin Kuei, but a casual comment by Madam Bo hinted at this unexpected connection earlier on.
In Chapter 1, she calls Raiden and Kung Lao “sons I’ve never birthed.” It’s not yet clear how this connection will play out in the narrative, but it seems certain that a confrontation between Sektor and Madam Bo is destined in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns.
“The armor is just the first step.”
Another point of contention amongst fans was NRS’s decision to make Sektor and Cyrax’s armor a wearable suit, similar to Iron Man. In previous timelines, Sektor and Cyrax could not willingly remove their armor and were trapped within the cybernetic suits instead. Another teaser posted by Ed Boon depicted a pre-fight interaction between the two characters, where Cyrax theorizes that the armor is “just the first step,” to which Sektor replies, “You will find out in time.”
From our conversation, it seems clear that the Cyber Initiative remains the ultimate objective. It’s plausible that the armor observed in Mortal Kombat 1 could be an early model, eventually leading towards full-fledged cybersization.
What about Sektor’s moves in Mortal Kombat 1?
In Mortal Kombat 1, Sektor’s move set appears fast and stylish, much like her yellow counterpart. Her special abilities primarily revolve around her armor suit. Trailers suggest a cannon, rocket-based attacks, a flamethrower, and a retractable shield. Overall, Sektor seems agile in Mortal Kombat 1, promising a distinctive gaming experience.
