With the Commonwealth Games underway, TV viewers are noticing a change for Gethin Jones, who used to host shows like Blue Peter and Morning Live. He’s now taken on a new role that doesn’t involve being on television.
Gethin was chosen to lead the Welsh team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games last year. This role isn’t about cooking – he’s effectively the team’s manager, responsible for overseeing everything.
Gethin spent the past year getting a Master’s degree in Sports Directorship while also continuing his work as a presenter. He successfully juggled his studies with his existing commitments to prepare himself for what was next.
In a video posted on Instagram earlier this week, he expressed how honored he was to lead the team as Chef de Mission in Glasgow.
The past year and a half has been incredible. Everyone involved – the team and all the support staff – has worked hard on the preparations and logistics to give our athletes the best chance to perform well over the next few weeks in Glasgow.

After more than 70 years, the BBC will not be broadcasting the Commonwealth Games on television or radio. TNT Sports, owned by Warner Bros Discovery, won the contract to cover the event instead.
However, BBC iPlayer does feature Welsh coverage via S4C and Scottish Gaelic coverage via BBC Alba.
