Mormon ex-wife of ‘alpha’ MAFS groom Tyson Gordon breaks her silence on ‘unhealthy’ marriage – as she reveals fears for his Twitch streamer sister

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the fallout from Married at First Sight with interest, and I’m hearing from Tyson Gordon’s ex-wife, who’s finally speaking out. She’s understandably upset that he’s been publicly involving her in his very strong opinions on current social issues – what some are calling ‘anti-woke’ views. She’s clearly frustrated with being pulled into something she wants no part of, and I can definitely understand why she’s choosing to set the record straight now.

Tove Thoreson, 26, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was surprised to hear about her marriage to Gordon on a reality show. They met and married in 2019 after a chance encounter at a ski resort in Utah, and his recent appearance on Channel Nine brought their relationship into the public spotlight.

Throughout the experiment so far, 30-year-old Tyson has gained attention for his strong conservative opinions. He’s publicly dismissed what he calls ‘woke culture’ and stated he’s looking for a traditional wife.

A ‘trad wife’ is a woman who intentionally chooses a traditional lifestyle, focusing on being a homemaker, wife, and mother rather than pursuing a career.

Tyson sparked outrage after telling his wife, Stephanie Marshall, a successful real estate agent who once earned $680,000 in a single year, that he wanted a more traditionally submissive partner and considered her career to be unfeminine.

During the show, he also briefly mentioned his marriage to Ms. Thoreson, explaining their divorce by saying she wasn’t very tidy at home.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Ms. Thoreson stated that Tyson’s old-fashioned beliefs didn’t align with her own, despite her upbringing in the Mormon faith.

She stated that she doesn’t approve of his actions on TV or how he behaved towards her personally.

Ms. Thoreson, an American citizen, stated she wasn’t familiar with the term ‘trad wife’ when she got married. She also feels her religious beliefs were inaccurately portrayed to fit the image Tyson presented on Married at First Sight.

‘I knew him mentioning I was a Mormon would grab people’s attention, that’s for sure,’ she said.

I was very young, only 21, and didn’t know about concepts like being “traditionally” feminine at the time. Some people might assume all Mormon women are, but that’s simply not true.

We might be considered more traditional, but modern Mormon women are definitely not submissive.

Ms. Thoreson didn’t want to talk about the reasons for their breakup, especially after Tyson suggested her messiness played a role.

She explained that the relationship ended because it had become damaging and strained. She added that the specific reasons were private and she didn’t want to share them publicly.

Although Tyson claimed on the show they were still friends, Ms. Thoreson stated that wasn’t true.

‘I can’t comment on his views, now versus then, as I haven’t spoken to him in six years,’ she said.

Tyson and I aren’t on good terms and don’t communicate. That time in my life was really tough, and I’d prefer not to discuss it further.

She also moved to shut down speculation that their marriage was motivated by visa arrangements.

I first met Tyson in 2018 when his family was visiting the ski resort in Utah where I worked, she explained.

We met unexpectedly, and our connection grew even though we lived far apart – in Australia and the United States. For about a year and a half, we traveled between the two countries before finally getting married in Utah.

I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Tyson isn’t. After we got married, I lived in Australia for about a year. So, the rumors that we only knew each other briefly, were married for just 30 days, or that I was trying to get Australian citizenship through him are false.

Ms. Thoreson tried to avoid being involved in the controversy, but she’s now worried that Gordon’s sister, Madison Gordon – a well-known Twitch streamer – might also suffer consequences.

Madison has over a million followers on social media and frequently wears costumes for gaming events.

Ms. Thoreson said the only thing she still has from that period of her life is her friendship with his sister, Madison, who remains one of her dearest and kindest friends.

She wasn’t involved in any of this, and I hope people will respect her privacy and not bring her into the situation.

Ms Thoreson also urged viewers to remember reality TV offers only a ‘narrow lens of a person’.

What people see on screen is just one part of a person; it doesn’t show everything about who they are, she explained.

‘People are complex and shaped by experiences and struggles the public may never see.

While harmful actions are never justified, it’s important to remember that people are complex and shouldn’t be judged based on just one aspect of their character.

I don’t want anything bad to happen to Tyson, and I truly hope he finds peace and recovery despite everything that’s going on in public right now.

Ms. Thoreson, a new mother, says she’s prioritizing her family and doesn’t want to discuss the matter further, only clarifying any inaccuracies.

I’ve heard about his comments on TV, but I don’t know the reason he made them, she said.
