More details emerge about upcoming Until Dawn film, including return of Dr. Hill

As a seasoned gamer with decades of horror gaming under my belt, I must say, the news about the upcoming “Until Dawn” film has me both intrigued and cautiously optimistic. The return of Peter Stormare as Dr. Alan J. Hill brings a comforting sense of familiarity to this new venture. However, the absence of other game characters like Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, or Brett Dalton might leave a slight void in the nostalgia department.

New information has come to light regarding the forthcoming film adaptation of “Until Dawn,” a horror video game released in 2015 by developer Supermassive Games. Although the movie’s narrative seems to deviate significantly from the game, it appears that at least one significant character will reappear in the film.

In a recent report, it appears that actor Peter Stormare has returned to his character, Dr. Alan J. Hill, who serves as a therapist within the video game. He offers analysis to the player between chapters. His role is somewhat analogous to The Curator, previously played by Tony Pankhurst in Supermassive’s horror game series, The Dark Pictures Anthology, where he serves as a narrative voice.

To date, Stormare is the sole actor from the game who has been confirmed to reprise his role in the film. It’s not very likely that actors such as Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, and Brett Dalton will make an appearance unless it’s just a brief cameo or they are introduced as new characters.

Besides Stormare, it’s also reported that the cast will feature Maia Mitchell from The Fosters and Good Trouble, as well as Belmont Cameli, known for his roles in Peacock’s Saved By the Bell reboot and Netflix film Along for the Ride. Joining this ensemble are Odessa A’zion, Michael Cimino, Ella Rubin, and Ji-young Yoo.

The movie filming starts towards the end of this month, led by David F. Sandberg, who also directed “Lights Out.” The latest draft of the script is written by Gary Dauberman from “Annabelle Comes Home,” while Blair Butler (“The Invitation”) wrote the original version.

In his statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg had this to say:

I’ve been longing to do horror again after ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Annabelle: Creation,’ and this film explores the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible. Capturing the essence of the game but with new characters, it serves as a great stand-alone introduction to the world for the newcomer as well as offers something new that the fans of the game will enjoy.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming movie adaptation of Until Dawn, but Sony Screen Gems hasn’t spilled the beans about the plot just yet. There are whispers on the internet suggesting that this film will venture into uncharted territory and won’t be a carbon copy of the game. It appears that director Nico Sabbatello’s statement supports this theory, as he’s confirmed that the cast is made up of fresh faces (with the exception of Dr. Hill). The buzz around town is that Until Dawn will be an R-rated horror flick and a heartfelt tribute to the genre itself. I can hardly wait to see how it all unfolds!

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that while we might have to wait until 2025 for the movie, there’s an exciting development this year! The remaster of “Until Dawn” is on its way, unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play in January. This revamped version, meticulously crafted using Unreal Engine 5, promises to deliver enhanced audio, visuals, and more. Best part? It’ll be available exclusively on PS5 and PC. Can’t wait!
