More Destiny 2 players to enter the Lighthouse in Episode Heresy with Bungie’s huge Trials revamp
Time to end that PvP hiatus and get back in the Crucible, guardian!
In Destiny 2 lately, there hasn’t been much to cheer about, particularly for those who prefer Trials or Player versus Player (PvP) modes. However, Bungie aims to regain the community’s favor through a line of core updates accompanying Episode: Heresy on February 7th.
Today’s article delves deeply into Player versus Player (PvP) aspects in Destiny 2, as significant improvements are on the horizon for the Crucible’s competitive playstyle, including the Trials of Osiris. The aim is to enhance rewards throughout, making it accessible for all players, regardless of their PvP prowess.
Trials of Osiris rewards boosted—and you won’t even need seven wins to earn them
In their extensive post on January 23rd, Bungie discussed the overall transformation of Destiny 2’s Player versus Player (PvP) mode in light of Episode: Heresy.
For a considerable duration, Player versus Player modes, particularly the Trials of Osiris, have struggled in Destiny 2. The issue lies in inadequate rewards, a steep entry threshold, and the requirement to achieve a flawless victory every week, which led to a substantial decrease in player participation. Bungie mentioned that even the worst-performing Iron Banner during that timeframe had almost the same number of participants as the best Trials performance over the same period. Furthermore, they stated that the participation in Iron Banner was three times higher than in Trials.
In simpler terms, the initial rule was that to reap the maximum benefits at the Lighthouse, you had to achieve seven consecutive victories without any losses. However, now, it’s enough to secure seven wins, regardless of how many times you might have lost along the way, to gain entry into the Lighthouse.
As a gamer, I’ll rake in greater prizes the longer my winning spree lasts, and if I manage to snatch seven victories consecutively, I’m golden – a voyage to the Lighthouse is mine! For those who crave competition, Flawless Passages promise the biggest spoils.
As I journey through this game, I notice that my winning streaks start to snowball over the span of an episode or season, with the rewards becoming increasingly juicy each time I visit the Lighthouse. Along the way, I gather more Enhancement Prisms, Ascendant Shards, Trials Engrams, and other sweet loot.
Furthermore, Bungie is introducing fresh visual items like armor, emblems, spaceships, and vessels to entice players to return. Players can accumulate points by finishing tasks, victorious in matches, or opening the Lighthouse chest. When a point threshold is met, players will receive one of these visual items as a reward.
In essence, we’re giving weapons an upgrade with customizable options across various weapon structures that players will find appealing. Ultimately, Bungie strives to enhance and make the Trials in Destiny 2 more enjoyable and rewarding for all participants, not just those who are deeply invested in the mode.
PvP enters new era with Episode: Heresy, Frontiers update
In addition to Episode: Heresy giving Trials a new coat of paint, the overall appearance of The Crucible will be significantly altered. This transformation includes introducing new prizes to pursue and revamping existing systems in accordance with the new episode.
Bungie is bringing back the unified Quickplay mode once more, dividing it into three sections that cater to various players: smaller, two-versus-two versions similar to Clash or Supremacy, as well as the traditional six-versus-six modes. Occasionally, events like Iron Banner and Trials will swap places with one of the rotating nodes every weekend or week.
Additionally, Bungie has verified the introduction of fresh weaponry such as an Iron Banner trace rifle and sidearm, along with a regular pulse rifle for the Crucible. The general gameplay modes will now benefit from Bungie’s advanced skill-based matchmaking system.
The team explained that these modes were created to spin independently, ensuring little repetition of experiences among them, thus preventing one mode from stealing its audience from the others.
Episode: Heresy on Feb. 7 brings a host of exciting features, but Bungie’s work on the Crucible extends beyond that update, reaching into the Frontiers. This ambitious project is the result of extensive collaboration between several teams, including the Crucible Strike Team, Engineering, Activities, Armor, Weapons, and UI/UX. The new system is progressing well, and we can’t wait to reintroduce it once it’s ready for gameplay.
