More actors join the cast of new Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

As a die-hard fan who has lived through the highs and lows of Westeros since the days of Ned Stark, I am thrilled to hear about yet another addition to the realm’s rich tapestry – “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Having grown up with the tales of Dunk and Egg, it’s heartening to see them finally coming to life on screen. The fact that this series promises a lighter take on the usual Game of Thrones drama is music to my ears.

The popular series “Game of Thrones” concluded in 2019 following eight seasons. Meanwhile, the spin-off show “House of the Dragon” wrapped up its second season this year and is set to return for a third in 2026. Next year, HBO will introduce another prequel series, taking place decades after the events portrayed in “House of the Dragon” but decades before the timeline of “Game of Thrones.

The show is titled “A Knight of Seven Kingdoms“, derived from author George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg ” novellas. This series will delve into the escapades of a valiant knight named Dunk (portrayed by Peter Claffey) and his clever squire, Egg (played by Dexter Sol Ansell). It promises to offer a more playful interpretation of “Game of Thrones“, and judging from what Martin has witnessed, he’s “extremely pleased” with it thus far.

An official trailer for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has been privately unveiled, and I’m confident that it won’t be long before the general audience gets a glimpse. In the interim, we have news from “Redanian Intelligence” about several new cast members joining the series, including…

Ellie McHale-Roe and Carla Harrison-Hodge (depicted above) portray Lia the Lovely and Beony, two characters who engage in a dialogue with a likely character named Dunk. They draw an analogy between their professions as sex workers and jousting, suggesting that, like knights risking their lives for spectators’ delight, they expose their bodies to the enjoyment of strangers.

JB Moore has been cast as a character who works with horses’ hooves – a farrier. The initial season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” which takes place at a tournament involving jousting, so there will be a need for equestrian expertise.

Mark O’Connor, previously involved in a cancelled prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’ titled ‘Bloodmoon’, will portray a musician at the tournament. Cara Harris will introduce an original character named Gwin, while Eric Nolan, Michael O’Mara, and Riain Ó Conchobhaír are among the actors playing roles yet to be disclosed in detail. Below you can see pictures of Michael O’Mara and Riain Ó Conchobhaír:

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms complete cast list (so far)

In comparison to stories like “Game of Thrones” or “House of the Dragon,” which have a vast array of characters, this upcoming story is seeing an increase in its cast size. Here are some of the newest additions to the ensemble:

  • Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk, the good-hearted hero of our story
  • Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Dunk’s squire
  • Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree, an elderly knight and Dunk’s master
  • Finn Bennett as Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, a half-mad Targaryen prince
  • Bertie Carvel as Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Aerion’s more level-headed uncle
  • Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Aerion’s father
  • Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, a puppeteer
  • Daniel Ings as Lyonel Baratheon, who participates in the tourney
  • Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway
  • Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway
  • Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate
  • Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion
  • Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer
  • Ross Anderson as Humfrey Hardyng
  • Steven Calvert as a Stormland knight
  • Rowan Robinson as Rowan
  • Ellie McHale-Roe as Lia the Lovely
  • Carla Harrison-Hodge as Beony
  • JB Moore as a farrier
  • Mark O’Connor as a musician
  • Abigail O’Regan in an unknown role
  • Eric Nolan in an unknown role
  • Michael O’Mara in an unknown role
  • Riain Ó Conchobhaír in an unknown role

In 2025, it’s expected that the initial season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will air over a span of six episodes on both HBO and Max. I’m betting we’ll see it premiere during the springtime.
