What to expect in The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

In contrast to the initial season of the anthology, the upcoming chapter presents a shift in dynamics as it delves into a crime perpetrated by two siblings, Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch). Unlike Dahmer who acted solo, this duo worked together, and their actions were deeply personal, as they tragically took the lives of their parents, José Menéndez (portrayed by Javier Bardem) and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez (Chloë Sevigny). If you’re familiar with the real-life events, you know that their method was quite grisly.

As a fervent admirer, I’d rephrase it this way: According to prosecutors, Lyle and Erik are alleged to have committed the act for financial gain. However, the brothers themselves assert that their actions stemmed from a deep-rooted fear bred by a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse inflicted by their parents, as suggested in the synopsis. The trailer leaves much to the imagination, but it certainly hints at the show delving deeply into the intricate and tumultuous family dynamics.

I’m quite fond of true-crime and have my alarm set, although it’s not the typical show for nighttime viewing. I generally prefer documentaries to fictional narratives, but I suspect this will make for an intriguing watch when it airs. Are you planning on tuning in as soon as it premieres?

Indeed, the popular true-crime drama is all set for a third season, and a new main character has been cast. Charlie Hunnam will portray the infamous character, Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield. Filming commences next week, and you can gather more information about this exciting development here.

The gripping tale of the Menendez brothers, “Monsters,” is set to debut on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at midnight Pacific Time, exclusively on Netflix.
