Monster on Netflix has its next serial killer (Here’s who Charlie Hunnam is playing in season 3)
As a true-crime enthusiast who’s been following these stories for years and has a soft spot for gripping anthology series, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming third season of Monster! The casting of Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein, the Butcher of Plainfield, is an inspired choice that promises to deliver chills and suspense in equal measure.
Before the second season of “Monster” on Netflix even premieres, the streaming service has already revealed that Charlie Hunnam from “Sons of Anarchy” will star as the lead in season 3. Given his impressive acting skills, I’m confident he’ll excel in this chilling and unnerving part.
In the third season, the character will depict Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield, who carried out his heinous acts in Plainfield, Wisconsin, a place not far from where he was raised. His confirmed victims include Mary Hogan, a tavern owner, and Bernice Worden, an hardware store owner, both killed in the 1950s.
Charlie Hunnam will portray Ed Gein in the next season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, Monster.

Apart from being accused of these two offenses, he was also found to have exhumed fresh graves in cemeteries, creating trinkets using their bones and skin. He was infamous for crafting masks and other artifacts out of human skin. It’s truly unsettling just to imagine it. I’m struggling to find the courage to watch this season. Here’s hoping it implies more than it shows. However, considering Ryan Murphy’s style, things might get quite graphic.
The third season of “Monster” will start filming in October 2024, as stated in a Netflix press release. Previously, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” premiered in September 2022, and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is scheduled for release on Sept. 19, 2024. Given this timeline, it’s possible that the Ed Gein story might not air until September 2026. However, no official release date or other details about the next serial killer story have been revealed yet.
This collection of series has undeniably gained wide acclaim among audiences, particularly with its portrayal of the Dahmer case. I anticipate a similar response with the upcoming Menendez brothers adaptation, set to debut in a few days. The second season delves into the trial of Lyle and Erik for murdering their parents, examining whether the alleged motive was rooted in years of abuse or financial gain following their demise.
As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of virtual reality, it’s mind-boggling to ponder the lengths some individuals will go – often with motives that seem murky at best. I’ve always been captivated by true-crime narratives, and these tales certainly send shivers down my spine. Brace yourself if you plan on watching them; they require a sturdy heart indeed. Will you join me in tuning in?
