Apple has announced the release date for season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, giving fans the news they’ve been waiting for. This new season will explore a fresh storyline for the Monsterverse TV series, taking place on Skull Island about seven years before the events of Godzilla vs. Kong.
Apple has announced that season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 27, 2026. The new season will arrive a little over two years after the first season finished, which is a common timeframe for big streaming shows that rely heavily on visual effects.
The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters concluded with Cate, May, and Keiko managing to escape from a hidden section of Hollow Earth. They used a vehicle originally deployed by the Monarch organization during a 1962 mission called Operation Hourglass. Unfortunately, Shaw appeared to give his life to ensure their safety. The escape brought them to Skull Island in 2017, two years after Cate and May were first reported missing.

Details about Monarch season 2 are still limited, but we know the story will unfold on Skull Island and center around Kong and Apex Cybernetics. A recent teaser revealed that Shaw survived his experiences in Hollow Earth and hinted at multiple giant creature threats appearing on and around the island.
The preview includes creatures similar to the monsters seen in the 2023 animated Netflix series, Skull Island. This doesn’t necessarily mean the new live-action show will follow the same stories, but it does suggest the characters in Monarch will face familiar threats on the island, ones audiences have already seen in the MonsterVerse franchise.
It’s still unknown why Apex is on Skull Island and what they’re trying to discover. But a hint from the first season suggests they’re beginning to build Mechagodzilla. The story might show the initial phases of this project, and explain why Kong is crucial to its development.
Now that season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is just three months away, we’re sure to learn more about what the show will cover. Given that Skull Island is filled with powerful Titans, the series will likely introduce many new and dangerous creatures, and we might get a sneak peek at some of them before the season premieres.
