Molly-Mae Hague finally spoke up about the controversy surrounding her victory at the National Television Awards for Best Authored Documentary, which occurred on Wednesday evening.
In a notable achievement, the influencer and Love Island star, aged 26, emerged victorious in the competition against cancer survivor Amy Dowden and the late Rob Burrow, who suffered from motor neurone disease. Her revealing six-part series titled Molly-Mae: Behind It All premiered on Amazon Prime in January.
On both Thursday night and that particular Thursday, Molly-Mae encountered a barrage of criticisms. This included remarks from Vogue Williams, who asserted that Molly-Mae had contrived her breakup with fiancé Tommy Fury as a means to boost visibility for the program by fabricating the split.
You’re unique. Never forget that. Congratulations dear!

Molly-Mae’s memoir, “Behind It All,” offers an insightful look into the emotional turmoil she experienced during her separation from boxer Tommy Fury, largely due to his struggles with alcohol, and the challenges she encountered when starting her Maebe fashion line.
In the Best Authored Documentary category at the NTAs, she faced stiff competition from notable contenders like “There’s Only One Rob Burrow,” which she acknowledged during her speech, as well as Flintoff and Strictly Amy: Cancer & Me.
Initially, many thought that Rob’s family would win the award, but instead, it was Molly-Mae who received it. In her heartfelt speech, she acknowledged Rob, who sadly passed away at 41 following his struggle with Motor Neuron Disease, as well as his family.
As I reflect on last night’s dazzling NTAs event, I find myself lost for words. Sharing a category with individuals whose heart-stirring tales outshine my own story has left me in awe. In essence, their narratives hold an inspiring power that leaves me speechless.
As a humble recipient of this esteemed award, I am reminded once more of those who truly deserve the recognition. In memory of the late, great Rob Burrow and his loving family, I feel compelled to dedicate this accolade to them. Alongside the extraordinary individuals in my category, their unwavering spirit and accomplishments have significantly contributed to this victory. This award, in essence, belongs not only to me but also to each of them.
I’m deeply appreciative of the acknowledgement, but what truly fills me with gratitude is standing among such power and motivation. To all those who cast their votes… I am utterly astounded. From the deepest part of my heart, thank you.
One supporter expressed sympathy, stating: ‘In the end, the public decided on their voting location. Robert’s story is inspiring, and you delivered a moving speech, but I believe the public voted for you due to the deep connection your message held for many.’
Every day, many individuals face challenges such as breakups, co-parenting, emotional turmoil from heartbreak, and struggles with alcoholism. While it’s easy to be impressed by others’ inspiring stories, it’s essential to recognize that the help and understanding you extend may have a profound impact on more people than you might realize – making them feel seen and validated in their own journeys.
‘Congratulations on an award you really deserved’.

Others expressed their appreciation for her speech, commenting: ‘Your speech was wonderfully and respectfully delivered – don’t forget that you still won. Wear your victory proudly, dear Molly. It was flawless (even with the mishap of losing a shoe). You’re authentic, and that’s why I stand in support…
In this journey, fate guided me to a particular category, surrounded by remarkable individuals. Though I had no control over my circumstances, my words reflected my passion and commitment. The public’s vote recognized my efforts, but true sportsmanship compelled me to honor my fellow nominees in my acceptance speech. As always, humility prevailed. Here’s to the victory, yet acknowledging the extraordinary talent around me! Congratulations to all!
One fervent admirer of Molly-Mae criticized the NTAs staff for categorizing her documentary in a way that exposed her to harsh criticism and abuse.
The vote was open to the public, but it seemed to target the younger generation. What surprised me was that they pitted her against individuals battling life-altering illnesses who were staring at death. This choice left me astonished.
‘I will never watch the TV awards again it’s an embarrassment
