Many fans are still wondering if Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. She last appeared in *The Suicide Squad*, a film made before James Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios. Because that movie seems to take place in the same universe as Gunn’s future DC projects, it’s possible Robbie could return to play the playful and unpredictable character.
Many fans think Hugo Weaving would be a great choice if the role ever needs to be recast. Although James Gunn has expressed interest in working with Margot Robbie again, he might eventually look for a new actress to play Harley Quinn. It’s clear Weaving understands how difficult it would be to follow Robbie’s performance. She mentioned this in an Instagram post for *Who Let Us Out*:
Oh, really? Okay, I’ll give it a try. It’s just that Maggie did such a fantastic job, it’ll be hard to live up to her performance. I’m not sure I can do as well as she did.
Will Margot Robbie Reprise Her Role as Harley Quinn?
Margot Robbie has played Harley Quinn in several DC films, including *Suicide Squad*, *The Suicide Squad*, and *Birds of Prey*, leading many to believe she’d continue in the DC Universe. Despite the connection between *Suicide Squad* and the *Peacemaker* series confirming both are part of the same universe, Robbie recently stated she hasn’t been contacted about reprising her role. She shared this with *Variety* in August, indicating she’s unsure if she’ll return to the superhero franchise.
I haven’t received any news. You can’t ever tire of Harley Quinn – I love the character immensely. I always envisioned her having a lasting impact, similar to Batman, continuing to be popular even after I’m done playing her. I feel a strong desire to share Harley with others.
Everyone’s been asking me – and James Gunn, a lot – about whether Margot Robbie will continue playing Harley Quinn in the new DC Universe. It’s been a big topic! Around the time Robbie herself was talking about it, Gunn mentioned they’d reveal the plans for that character later, hinting that a recast wasn’t off the table. Basically, he wasn’t giving anything away just yet, and we’re all still waiting to find out what’s happening with Harley!
Currently, only a few characters from the previous DC Universe have been confirmed to return, and most of them were already involved in projects James Gunn was developing – with Blue Beetle being the exception. Because of this, it’s still possible Margot Robbie could reprise her role as Harley Quinn when the time comes for her to appear in the new DC Universe. We don’t have any information yet about *when* or *where* Quinn might first appear, but with multiple Batman-related projects planned, it’s safe to say we’ll see her on screen again within the next few years.
