As a gamer with a soft spot for TV shows that strike a perfect balance between humor and heartfelt moments, the news of Eric Stonestreet‘s new project, “Home Team,” has me more than just a little excited. Having grown up watching him as the lovable and quirky Cameron Tucker in “Modern Family,” I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia for those hilarious yet touching family dinners, and I’m eager to see Stonestreet bring his unique charm to a new character.
Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet has got a big new TV project in the works.
According to Deadline, Stonestreet is set to appear in and oversee the production of Home Team, a humorous half-hour single-camera series.
In this TV series, we find ourselves focusing on character Scott Hansen, who decides to transfer his elderly father into a senior living facility. Finding himself stuck in a mundane routine, Scott seeks guidance from new acquaintances within the community as he endeavors to revitalize his life.
Besides exploring the central topic of father-son dynamics, the show also emphasizes sports, considering one of its producers is the renowned former NFL quarterback, Peyton Manning.
It’s common knowledge that Stonestreet is an ardent supporter of American football, particularly Kansas City, which is at odds with Manning’s previous team, the Denver Broncos. Notably, the sports celebrity made a brief appearance on the sitcom Modern Family, portraying Coach Gary in season 8 episode 13; however, they never appeared together in a scene.
Last week, after Jesse Tyler Ferguson playfully hinted at a reunion back in May, I found myself reuniting with my on-screen family from ‘Modern Family’. Alongside Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, and Julie Bowen, we all gathered to step back into our iconic roles for a brief scene. It was an exciting moment to be part of this television history once more!
As a long-time fan of Modern Family, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about a potential follow-up series or special. However, after learning that the upcoming reunion is merely for a WhatsApp ad campaign, my excitement has significantly dwindled. Nonetheless, Sofia Vergara’s enthusiasm for a full revival has given me a glimmer of hope. If there was indeed a chance to bring back this beloved show, I would jump at the opportunity without hesitation.
“The script’s out there, and it’s very good,” he teased.
Modern Family can be streamed in full on Disney+ in the UK, and on Hulu and Peacock in the US.
