During her contemplation, the actress shared that this period in her acting career marked the beginning of her portraying characters with children.

However, an opportunity arose for me to audition with three kids, one in high school, all on a television series… And you must consider these things sequentially, given the success of Modern Family. In a movie, viewers tend to forget the details. On TV, though, it’s like you’re constantly being a mother.
At the time, Greer said she ‘didn’t even want kids’ and ‘that was not even on the table for’ her.
Greer reminisced, “I hesitated, ‘I believe I won’t try out for the role.’ I was deeply conflicted, but in the end, I didn’t. Whether I would have been chosen or not is uncertain, but I found myself thinking, ‘I’m unsure if I’m ready to be America’s mother just yet.’
As a die-hard fan, I’d put myself in her shoes and admit that just like how I can’t commit to missing an episode of my beloved Modern Family, Greer wasn’t prepared for the unwavering dedication that playing a character on the show demanded.
