Modern Family child star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons makes surprising career move… see her now

Five years following the conclusion of the cherished sitcom Modern Family, a former child star from the show made an unexpected announcement about their career change.

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, known for her role as Lily, the adopted child of Cameron (played by Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (portrayed by Jesse Tyler Ferguson), has shared that she intends to put out an extended play (EP) as she shifts her focus towards music.

The 18-year-old lead actor, who played the famous character throughout the entire series’ 11 seasons, is approaching her latest role with great dedication. In her upcoming endeavors, she will be known by the stage name Frances Anderson in her music career.

In a recent chat with TooFab, she shared the inspiration for her new stage name: “Frances is actually my middle name, it was given in honor of an old family friend. Since my music has a nostalgic feel or I’m quite nostalgic by nature, I find the connection to this childhood memory very appealing.

‘It’s also a little bit shorter than Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, so there’s that one, too.’

Although she adopted a new professional identity, the celebrity maintains that her new name does not represent a change in persona for her.

Anderson-Emmons stated: ‘Francis Anderson isn’t exactly my other self. She has her own distinct feel.’

‘It seems to me she is somewhat younger because most of the music I’ve composed is connected to my childhood and high school years. Given that I finished high school ahead of schedule this year, it gives me the impression she might be a few years junior. However, we will both mature together.’

This upcoming Friday, August 8, she’s planning to unveil her first Extended Play (EP) titled “Drown.” The cover art for the album features a low-key snapshot of the new artist thoughtfully gazing out of a window.

Her music sounds like indie rock in the vein of Clairo, beabadoobee, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Aubrey unveiled her first single, titled “Telephones And Traffic,” in May, having taken a break from professional acting since wrapping up the ABC sitcom.

A month later in June she came out as bisexual in a TikTok post.

In an amusing manner reminiscent of Modern Family’s Season 4 episode “The Future Dunphys,” I once shared my truth, echoing the words of a young, precocious character named Lily who confidently declared her identity as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

In response to Gloria’s claim that she is Vietnamese, the actress posted a video of herself mimicking the dialogue, “No, I’m not. I’m gay! I’m gay!” from the scene.

Anderson-Emmons labeled the video with the following: “I’ve been jokingly referred to as being gay, but just to clarify, I identify as bisexual.

She titled her post, “Chuckling! Happy Pride Month and Good Night everyone,” using the hashtags #ModernFamily, #Lily, #PrideMonth, #Pride, #FYP, and #Bi.

At the tender age of four, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons made her debut on Modern Family as character Lily, starting from the third season which aired in 2011.

At just four years old, the actress wrote her name in Hollywood history by winning a Screen Actors Guild Award, making her the most youthful performer ever to receive this honor, as she was a member of the show’s principal cast.

In addition, she made guest appearances on Bill Nye’s show “Bill Nye Saves the World” in 2017 and on an episode of “Paradise Run” in 2018, appearing as herself in both instances.

In May, she posted a video for her 2.7 million TikTok audience, offering insights into her childhood experience under public scrutiny.

She acknowledged that often people wonder, “At what age did you decide to pursue that, being only four? Can one truly know they love something at such a tender age?” However, she conceded that in reality, it isn’t always possible to know for certain at such a young age.

As a dedicated admirer, I’d like to clarify that Aubrey never felt compelled or coerced. Instead, I’d describe the situation as if her mom didn’t impose anything upon her. It wasn’t like she was given an ultimatum or pressured into making a decision against my will.

She stated that she wasn’t physically harmed during filming or anything similar, but at the age of four, it’s unclear what one is agreeing to when they sign a contract for a television show.

Apart from acknowledging this, she further revealed that the program served as virtually her entire world during those times, as she grappled with intense scrutiny at such a tender age.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that statement as follows: Reflecting on my career, I can’t help but recall instances where, having started on TV at a tender age, my acting decisions were often criticized or I was labeled as less than stellar in my craft by some viewers.

I don’t have a strong urge to demonstrate my worth to others, nevertheless, it was quite challenging for me to mature amidst the constant flow of opinions from various individuals.

She has only appeared in a 2024 short film called Tallwinds since Modern Family went off the air.
