MobLand Shock: Did Conrad Lie to Cover for Maeve’s Deadliest Move Yet?
Warning: Major spoilers for episode 6 of MobLand ahead
In episode 6 of “MobLand,” Conrad Brosnan (played by Pierce Brosnan), a ruthless crime boss, claimed responsibility for murdering his rival’s wife. However, questions about the authenticity of this incident persist. During the initial episodes of the Paramount+ series, Kevin Harrigan and Harry Da Souza worked tirelessly to conceal Eddie Harrigan’s murder of Tommy Stevenson and maintain harmony in London. But following a particularly harsh insult from grief-stricken Vron Stevenson aimed at Maeve Harrigan, the cold, calculating matriarch appears to have given the order for her retaliation by the end of episode 5.
In an unexpected turn of events, when the Harrigans united at Cotswolds after the murder of Vron Stevenson, Conrad claimed responsibility for deciding to end Vron’s life. Although he and Maeve had talked about killing Vron together, it appeared that it was Maeve who ultimately carried out the act. Maeve’s apparent shock at Conrad’s confession, along with Paul’s discreet challenge of Conrad’s account of the incident, suggested that Conrad might not have been the one who truly made the decision to kill Vron. This led to the puzzle of why Conrad would claim credit instead of Maeve, who everyone believed was the one who ultimately decided on Vron’s fate.
Conrad Wants To Be Seen As More Powerful & In Control
There Are Signs The Crime Empire Is Crumbling On His Watch
In the story MobLand, Conrad Harrigan’s significant decisions have been subtly guided or even directly prompted by his wife Maeve. Though he may appear to be the one making the final decisions like ordering Archie’s killing or granting mercy to Eddie, it’s important to note that Maeve has often been whispering in his ear, encouraging him or chiding him as a coward if he hesitates. As Conrad’s actions suggest, Maeve’s influence on him seems to be expanding more than he is comfortable with. However, by taking credit for Vron’s murder, Conrad is asserting his authority and regaining control over the situation.

In Episode 6, Conrad reminisces about his past as a notorious crime boss, with his monikers “Conrad the Dread” and “100 Guns Harrigan,” suggesting he yearns to reclaim his former status of respect. At first glance, it appears Maeve is guiding him towards that path, perhaps trying to portray him as the most intimidating gangster in London. However, slaying the son and wife of his adversary certainly projects an image of fear and lethality, but not necessarily one of intelligence.
Conrad’s Control Is Slipping Away In MobLand
His Wife’s Machinations May Be At His Expense
From the very start of the series MobLand, it’s become evident that Conrad Harrigan, despite leading a thriving criminal organization, is no longer the terrifying “Conrad the Dread” he once was. Instead, he has transformed into an unstable elderly man who has lost not only his grip on his criminal empire but also his family. His children Maeve and Eddie conspired against him to eliminate Tommy Stevenson, a plan Conrad eventually supported, albeit with bluster about disrespect. However, it’s important to note that he did not actively participate in planning a war or forcing the Stevensons out of London.
It appears that Maeve, not Conrad himself, has been manipulating the chess pieces all along, occasionally using Conrad’s hand for her moves. As each move she made seems to have weakened Conrad’s grip on his family, his criminal empire, and his personal liberty, it becomes increasingly clear that Maeve might not be acting in Conrad’s best interests. It’s plausible that Maeve made the anonymous tip about Archie’s body to the police. Over six episodes of MobLand, Conrad has found himself growing more exposed to a potential coup by his own disgruntled wife, aiming to dethrone him as the leader of the Harrigan crime family.
