Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the season finale of MobLand
In the final episode of Ronan Bennett’s series, MobLand, the conflict between the Harrigans and Stevensons reached a shockingly brutal climax, propelling the major figures in the Harrigan crime syndicate into a larger, riskier realm. As Conrad and Maeve were imprisoned, Harry Da Souza skillfully executed his grand plan to permanently resolve the feud with the Stevensons. Along the journey towards this dramatic finale, several crucial enigmas regarding the Harrigans’ inner circle were unraveled, most significantly revealing the informant who had been supplying Richie with information for months.
Harry cleverly exploited Richie’s faith in O’Hara Delaney, their family lawyer, to orchestrate the downfall of the South London crime boss and his entire crew. This allowed Harry, Kevin, Paul, Zosia, and Kiko to strike simultaneously, taking them all out. Meanwhile, elsewhere, Kevin asserted his authority over the Harrigan criminal empire following the removal of his long-time antagonist, prison guard Alan Rusby. Upon discovering that Eddie was indeed Conrad’s son with Bella, Kevin cut ties with him entirely, leaving the matter of dealing with Eddie to Conrad instead.
In the final episode of MobLand, several questions from season 1 were answered and the conflict with the Stevensons was resolved. However, the finale laid the groundwork for a possible second season by introducing new complexities. Unlike their previous London-focused dealings with the Stevensons, the Harrigans found themselves entangled in a broader criminal network during season 1. As the Harrigan crime organization continues to evolve, there are numerous tales waiting to be uncovered, as well as fresh adversaries who have been antagonized by their actions.
Is Tom Hardy’s Harry Going To Survive After Being Stabbed By Jan?
Her Frustration Manifested In A Brief Moment Of Violence

In the concluding moments of the first season of MobLand, instead of grand action sequences, we witnessed a more personal and emotional scene. This took place as Harry found himself back at Jan’s safe house, where her pent-up anger, fear, and distress over their entrapment in their perilous way of life came pouring out. In a moment of unintended aggression, Jan, in a Freudian slip, accidentally plunged a kitchen knife into Harry, causing a wound to his chest.

It’s highly probable that Tom Hardy’s character will survive his stabbing on the show, despite the technical uncertainty surrounding his fate. This dramatic twist may serve as a safety net if Tom Hardy is unavailable for future seasons of MobLand. By doing so, they can eliminate him from the storyline and provide Jan, played by Joanne Froggatt, with a challenging personal conflict to explore.
Why The Prisoners Cheer Conrad
Conrad Receives A Hero’s Welcome At The Prison

Towards the closing scenes of the episode, Conrad steps out of his jail cell, greeted by a throng of fellow convicts within the penitentiary. They welcome him with acclaim and applause, which Conrad eagerly receives since, as previously demonstrated multiple times, he values his own standing more than anything else. As “100 Guns” Conrad Harrigan, he was once the city’s most dreaded criminal mastermind, undoubtedly garnering the fear and adoration of crooks from all over London. Now confined with them, Conrad is revered for his long history of notorious wickedness.
Maeve’s Series-Long Motivation Explained
We’re Finally Given A Reason For Her Chaotic Schemes

Maeve openly admits that her continuous plotting has a questionable basis and appears to be improvised. Yet, when conversing on their secret phones within their prison cells, Maeve clarifies that every action she took, such as setting Eddie after Tommy Stevenson, initiating a conflict, tipping off the police about Harry, and revealing Seraphina’s location to Richie Stevenson himself, were all part of her personal assessment. In simpler terms, Maeve aimed to gauge which family members were worth investing in for the future.
In my perspective, the finale sheds light on why I, Maeve, felt so connected to Eddie and harbored such animosity towards Seraphina. It turns out that I had long known that Eddie wasn’t truly my grandson, but rather, I had been nurturing him since he was still a teenager. Essentially, I had been preparing him to inherit the Harrigan empire, a cause I hold dearer than anything else. With Eddie as the leader, I aspired to become his queen, allowing me to wield power indirectly; this would have been impossible with an adult Seraphina in charge.
Is Kevin In Charge Of The Harrigan Empire Now?
He’s The Only Remaining Legitimate Heir To The Throne

In the grim world I found myself entangled with, growing up under the shadow of a criminal organization led by Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, I spent my youth confined within prison walls. The repeated acts of rape I suffered only strengthened my father’s grip on me. A cruel twist of fate made me unaware of the true identity of my son for years, while I lived with a wife who betrayed my trust by pursuing my best friend. But in the climax of MobLand, I finally started reclaiming what truly belonged to me – not just power within the Harrigan crime empire, but sovereignty over my own life.
With Conrad and Maeve surviving, Kevin’s journey to claim the throne won’t be straightforward. He enjoys Harry’s affection and admiration, but he must secure the loyalty of every soldier within the Harrigan crime syndicate to truly govern the empire effectively. Additionally, it is essential for him to instill fear and respect among his adversaries and competitors. Although Richie is no longer present, Kevin now faces formidable opponents such as Jaime Lopez and Kat McAllister. His family name offers some advantage, but Kevin must work hard to assert control over the Harrigan crime empire.
MobLand’s Finale Reveals What Bella’s Story Was Really About
Her Scheme Turned Out To Be A Revenge Plot

In the season finale, the long-awaited details regarding Bella’s plan involving her father, the Home Secretary, Antoine (a Frenchman), and his Syrian arms dealer client were finally unveiled. Snippets from news broadcasts on Bella’s phone and computer revealed that her father had been taken into custody for alleged blackmail or corrupt lobbying activities. It was discovered that Bella had arranged a meeting with the arms dealer to catch her father on video engaged in under-the-table dealings, as a form of revenge for the sexual abuse and torment he inflicted upon her during her childhood.
Why Harry Rejects Kat & How Will She Take Her Revenge?
He Makes An Enemy Of The Mysterious And Powerful Player

In the final episode of MobLand, Harry found himself alone with Kat. As expected, she invoked a debt Harry owed her following his actions in Antwerp – saving Seraphina and arranging the encounter between Conrad and Jaime. However, the favor she asked was far from what Harry had anticipated – it involved him assisting her in eliminating the last of the Harrigans so that Kat could seize control of London’s drug and firearms trade. Unfortunately for Kat, Harry adamantly declined due to his deep loyalty towards the Harrigans in general, and more specifically, his best friend Kevin, who was on Kat’s hit list.
It’s well-known that Kat McAllister wields immense power in the criminal underworld, yet the specifics of her role or affiliations remain shrouded in mystery. While rumors swirled about her possibly being an intelligence agent for organizations like the CIA or MI6, her recent ambition to control the London drug and firearms trade suggests she might be a crime lord herself. It’s been made clear that owing her anything is risky business, but Harry has just put a bullseye on his back as well.
It’s intriguing to note that Kat reached out to Seraphina Harrigan during the finale, which could indicate a new strategy since Harry has distanced himself from her. Instead of eliminating the Harrigans altogether, it seems Kat might be considering placing Seraphina as the family head, essentially making her a puppet. Given Seraphina’s shrewd business acumen and strong London reputation, she appears to be an ideal ally for Kat. In fact, Seraphina could become Kat’s means of retaliation against Harry, potentially dismantling the Harrigan empire from within.
Will MobLand Season 2 Happen?
Streaming Numbers Indicate A Green Light Could Be Close

From the very start, MobLand was a massive success for Paramount+, garnering over 8.8 million viewers in its premiere week alone, with an impressive 2.2 million tuning in on its debut day. This launch surpassed all previous records set by series on the platform, outperforming major titles such as 1923, Tulsa King, and Landman. As we approach the season finale, the show has climbed its way to becoming one of the top three most-watched programs on the Samba TV streaming chart, according to Yahoo. With such impressive viewership numbers, there’s no question that a second season of this gripping crime drama is well deserved.
Tom Hardy hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that there may be more seasons ahead. The conclusion of season 1 suggests that the storyline for the Harrigan inner circle is far from over, as they now face a formidable adversary in Kat McAllister, portrayed by Janet McTeer. Although an official confirmation for a second season hasn’t been made yet, it’s customary to wait until after a TV series finale airs before making such announcements, and it seems likely that this is the situation here.
