MobLand Funeral SHOCKER: Who’s REALLY to Blame?
Warning: Major spoilers ahead for episode 5 of MobLand
In Episode 5 of the gripping Paramount+ crime series “MobLand,” the storyline reached its climax following a nerve-wracking sequence centered around the funeral and wake of Tommy Stevenson. After it was disclosed at the end of episode 4 that the Harrigan family had been called to attend Richie Stevenson’s slain son Tommy’s funeral in the Cotswolds, episode 5 commenced with Conrad convening some of his kin to strategize a response. Given their deep-seated animosity towards this adversary, the invitation was perceived as a dangerous ploy by all involved, as they were quick to express.
In Harry’s perspective, if Richie had accepted their scheme of making Valjon take blame for Tommy’s death, he wouldn’t attack the Harrigans in a public setting like the funeral because it would provoke immediate law enforcement attention and harm their business within London’s criminal networks. Although they tentatively decided that attending the funeral might help divert suspicion from Eddie’s role in Tommy’s death, they were adamant about not going to the Stevenson house empty-handed; they planned to bring potentially harmful presents for the host instead.
Why Nothing Happened At Tommy‘s Funeral Or Wake
The Ultra-Tense Encounters Resulted In No Violence
Essentially, if the Harrigans hadn’t attended both the funeral and the wake, it would have been seen as an open confession of guilt and a call to arms, essentially declaring ongoing hostility between the families since it would imply no trust or peace. Richie understood this dynamic, which is why he extended a shrewd invitation – either he provoked retaliation from the Harrigans, or he brought them under his roof to confront them face-to-face.

Following Eddie’s unexpected outburst at the wake, Richie gathered Harry, Kevin, and Conrad, along with two of his associates, into a private room to address the situation. He acknowledged that the Harrigans’ presence had garnered his respect, but he left no doubt about who was accountable for Tommy’s death. He wasn’t swayed by any of the Harrigans’ other plans, such as the one involving Valjon. Richie wanted to look each Harrigan directly in the eye, particularly Eddie and Conrad, to assess if remorse was present.
Intriguingly, Richie set his boundaries regarding retaliation too. He made it clear that if he or his crew ever crossed paths with Eddie in public, he would be fair game – a norm that seems justifiable within the harsh crime world’s eye-for-an-eye tradition. However, Richie recognized that an all-out conflict between our gangs would only lead to unnecessary casualties and financial losses for both the Harrigans and the Stevensons. It’s thought-provoking to see Richie, often portrayed as a wild beast by the Harrigans, demonstrating such wisdom and restraint in this challenging scenario.
How Richie Knew Who Really Killed Tommy
Richie Wasn’t Fooled By The Valjon Charade
Eddie kept his sunglasses on when he met Richie, suggesting that Richie’s suspicions about Eddie’s involvement in Tommy’s death were well-founded. Since the beginning of MobLand , Richie had expressed a desire to look Eddie straight in the eye and have him confess to not killing Tommy, so he could ascertain the truth directly. In reality, what Richie was aiming for was to get close enough to Eddie to eliminate him, as Richie had always believed that Eddie was responsible for Tommy’s death, either due to evidence from a witness or by trusting his instincts based on the circumstances and the people involved.
How Harry Got Guns Into Richie’s House
A Highly Valuable Piece Of Blackmail Got The Harrigans Protection
Although Harry was fairly confident there wouldn’t be an attack at the Stevenson house, he and Conrad weren’t planning to walk right into a dangerous situation unprepared. Harry managed to sneak weapons into the Stevenson home by getting Freddy, one of Richie’s associates, to leave a bag filled with guns and grenades in Richie’s garage. By some means, Harry obtained Freddy’s phone where he found compromising photos showing that Freddy had been involved in an affair with Richie’s wife Vron. For Freddy, it was either hiding the weapons or facing potential danger from Richie.
What Brandon Is Plotting With Serafina
He Believes He Has A Way Back Into The Family’s Good Graces
In our family, being the eldest son doesn’t always mean smoother sailing, as I, Brandon Harrigan, have found myself often on the sidelines due to my string of questionable business decisions. Recently, I turned to my half-sister Serafina for help with another venture, hoping it would bring us back into the family’s favor. It was in episode 5 that this plan of mine was finally unveiled. You see, I’ve managed to secure access to a collection of rare Mozambiquan rubies, and I’ve already found a buyer for them. All I need is someone to provide the initial capital to close the deal.
Who Actually Made The Decision To Kill Vron
Her Direct Insult To Maeve Was The Breaking Point
At Tommy’s funeral, Vron mocking and laughing at Maeve was incredibly inappropriate, considering Maeve had already decided to make her the key piece in her strategy for starting a war with the Harrigans. By provoking Eddie into conflict once more by shoving him into a Stevenson guard, Maeve only furthered the tension. However, her plans were disrupted when her son Kevin drugged her. This was done as a safety measure since everyone is aware of Maeve’s unpredictable and confrontational nature.
After Maeve regains consciousness, she immediately accuses Conrad of drugging her, even though he claims innocence. In anger, she exits and promptly phones Paul. Although their discussion happens off-camera, the subsequent scene shows Vron leaving her home for shopping, only for her car to explode when she tries to start it. This suggests that Maeve and Paul had a heated conversation about something. With her initial plan to instigate conflict using Eddie against Tommy failing, Maeve swiftly devised another, more drastic retaliation strategy.
Why Maeve Is Desperate For War With The Stevensons
She Clearly Has Her Own Ambitions
Maeve appears to have been skillfully maneuvering those around her, particularly Conrad and Eddie, with the aim of pushing the Harrigans towards a conflict with the Stevensons. She’s accused Harry of being a traitor, keeps Brandon and Serafina at arm’s length, and seems intent on creating chaos; Richie understands that such a war between the families would be detrimental to business. It appears she might have ulterior motives, especially since it looks increasingly likely that she is the one betraying the Harrigans within their own ranks. In other words, Maeve may be positioning herself for control over the criminal organization dominating MobLand.
It’s plausible that Maeve might be driven by anger, instability, and a strong desire for revenge, given the frequent mentions of Conrad’s history of infidelity throughout his life. He has fathered Serafina, whom he cherishes deeply, and after betraying Maeve with a very young Bella, he also brought her into the family. In this context, it appears that Maeve is emotionally charged enough to act on her darkest instincts and potentially cause destruction for the Harrigans.
