As a dedicated Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gamer, I’m thrilled to share that we’ve wrapped up the first half of the 2025 esports season and are now revving up for the regional professional leagues. According to our 2025 roadmap, the Malaysian stage is about to ignite the Mobile Legends Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) Season 16. This time around, it’s going to be extra special because this will be the last event in its legacy format, making it a memorable occasion for all of us gamers!
Arranged by MOONTON and IO Esports, an offline tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is scheduled. This competition involves a total of 10 teams competing for two direct spots at the final event of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). Commencing this month, the event will continue until October 2025.
MPL MY Season 16: Schedule and Format
The opening of the event’s regular season is set for September 13th, 2025. During this initial phase, a single round robin tournament format with Best-Of-Three matches (BO3) will be used over a span of six weeks. The top six teams at the end of these weeks will proceed to the subsequent stage, known as the Playoffs.
The remaining teams are set to battle it out for a place in two of the main spots at the M7 World Championship, the premier event for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports. At present, the specific schedule and competition format have not been disclosed, so be sure to check back here for the latest news on the tournament developments.
Participating Teams
For this particular event, we have a total of 10 participants, with most hailing from the previous edition. Interestingly, just two teams are joining us from other events. One team advanced from the Challenger Stage, and another qualified from the season 3 of the MLBB Academy League.
Prize Pool
The prize pool details haven’t been revealed just yet, but we can expect it to be similar to previous years. Keep an eye on this article for updates regarding the prize pool.

The upcoming season of MPL MY will adopt a franchise-based system
In its past, the MPL has adhered to a traditional format. However, with the current evolution in competition, there’s a move towards a more advanced system. As a result, the esports league has joined forces with partners such as CelcomDigi, Infinix, Grab, Fairrie, 100PLUS, Yamaha, and CeraVe to introduce a franchise-based competition in the upcoming season of MPL MY.
The new system being adopted will resemble that of the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Fundamentally, the aim is to elevate the Malaysian esports sector by fostering additional possibilities within the industry. As Krystal Tan, Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, stated, “This shift will bolster our status as a significant player in the country’s entertainment intellectual properties and establish a more resilient ecosystem for teams, players, and collaborators“.

2025 esports tournaments featuring MOONTON’s hit MOBA games have garnered unprecedented popularity worldwide. Among these events, MPL MY stood out as a leader, setting a new record for peak concurrent viewers at 870,000 last year. Consequently, everyone will be keeping a close watch on the favorites and upcoming talents to scrutinize their skills and progress.
Apart from the anticipation, it’s worth noting that the upcoming event will be under close observation as people wonder if it will surpass previous records. Although the event is being held offline, those unable to attend in person can catch all the action live on the MPL Malaysia Facebook page and the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang YouTube channel.
