The authorities have cautioned that actions such as downloading, circulating, or promoting this game may result in criminal penalties under the national security law, and could potentially be viewed as incitement for secession. It’s also suggested that purchasing any items within the game might be considered as providing financial assistance for separatist activities within China.
This game is a strategic simulation developed by ESC Taiwan, where you can engage in various factions such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, or the Uyghurs, and challenge a fictitious Communist government. Additionally, players have the choice to assume the role of the Communists too.
Back in April 2025, I found myself downloading a game that was taking Hong Kong’s App Store by storm. It didn’t take long before it became the hottest title around. But then, just as mysteriously as it appeared, it vanished from the store. The game’s description intrigued me: “Taiwan’s future remains uncertain, but the war rages on”, “A Simulation for Rebels”. Something about it hinted at more than just a simple gaming experience.
Despite the developer announcing that the project is temporarily unavailable, no clear explanation has been given so far. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.
