As a dedicated Disney fan with a lifetime of memories tied to their enchanting tales, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon witnessing the latest developments in the Moana saga. The upcoming live-action remake and animated sequel promise to transport us back to the magical world of Motunui, and I simply can’t wait!

Moana fans got one of their clearest looks yet at new star Catherine Laga’aia on Monday.

17-year-old Australian actress was snapped on the location while portraying an intense scene on a Hawaiian beach during the filming of Disney’s live-action reboot.

In the scene, she was accompanied by her co-star John Tui, who portrays Moana’s father, Chief Tui, and fellow actress Frankie Adams, who takes on the role of Sina.

In my expert opinion, what truly stood out was the absence of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the 52-year-old powerhouse actor, who’s once again stepping into the shoes of the charismatic demigod Maui from the original animated movie in this new production.

Alternatively, the fact that Moana’s father is present implies the event might occur either at the beginning of the movie before Maui’s appearance, or towards the end when Moana reunites with her family.

The upcoming movie is a new version, serving as an animated follow-up to the initial Moana, where Auli’i Cravalho lends her voice to the lead role. This sequel is scheduled for theater release on November 27.

In the latest scene, Catherine was glimpsed on the beach and standing in waist-high water.

On her left, there was a dock with a crane that held a camera positioned, as well as a boom microphone operator and other film crew members who were stationed slightly off-camera.

Catherine wore a sleeveless, red, patterned top paired with a beige skirt that resembled a blanket, adorned with yellow strands of dried grass peeking out from beneath it.

Her long, wavy black hair cascaded to her lower back, while she and the entire cast went without shoes. (Paraphrased)

John Tui stood bare-chested, displaying intricate tattoos covering his right arm and upper torso, and wore a vibrant, deeply colored skirt with green leaf designs wrapped around his ankles.

Frankie Adams, the actress portraying Moana’s mother, wore an attire in a soft beige hue, which extended over her shoulders and followed a somewhat modest style.

At an emotionally charged moment that might’ve been a heartfelt reunion, Moana found herself standing in the shallows by the beach, with her father, the Chief Tui, seeming to dash towards her from afar.

He gave her a strong, bear-like hug and hoisted her aloft, all the while her mother was hot on her heels, rushing to welcome her.

Additionally, the principal actors were accompanied by a group of young performers who resembled Moana in their attire, albeit with clothing that had a reddish hue instead of bright red, and one of them wore a lengthy skirt made from grass.

Off in the distance, it looked like movie set props – wooden boats – were parked on the sand, past a row of tents and canopies, where the crew members sought shelter from the intense sunlight.

Recently, Disney has been more inclined towards reimagining their old animated successes into live-action movies instead of creating new ones, and the same trend applies to the upcoming remake of Moana.

Yet, it holds an unusual characteristic by still being developed, despite a follow-up movie from the initial film being ready to debut.

In its second weekend, Moana 2 may face tough rivalry at the box office, since it’ll be contending with Wicked: Part One simultaneously.

The movie, featuring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, set a new record for the highest opening weekend box office earnings among all Broadway adaptations.

The second installment of Gladiator, titled Gladiator II, is performing well financially. Directed by Ridley Scott once again, the film boasts Paul Mescal in the lead role, with a stellar ensemble including Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal providing additional support.

Despite falling short of Wicked’s success in the U.S., it has demonstrated robust earnings in foreign markets relative to the Oz-inspired musical.
