Moana 3 Finally Gets A Positive Update

A recent report offered the first news in a while about Moana 3. Disney is clearly committed to building the Moana franchise, with plans for a third animated movie, a live-action remake, and more attractions at Disney Parks. This isn’t surprising considering Moana 2 earned over $1 billion, and the original 2016 film remains one of Disney+’s most popular movies.

Entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman shared encouraging news about Moana 3: Disney has already started working on it. This is a faster start to development than with Moana 2, which didn’t begin production until 2020 – about four years after the original film. Initially, Moana 2 was planned as a Disney+ series.

Don’t expect to hear much official news about a third Moana movie anytime soon. However, fans won’t have to wait long to see Maui and Moana again! They’ll be back in cinemas on July 10th in a live-action version of the 2016 film, featuring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia.

Although a younger actress will play Moana in the upcoming live-action film, many fans hope Auliʻi Cravalho will reprise her role alongside Dwayne Johnson in a potential Moana 3. However, Disney hasn’t announced anything official about the movie’s cast or release date yet.

When Will Moana 3 Be Released?

Walt Disney Animation Studios isn’t known for quickly releasing sequels or making them more important than creating new stories. They usually make fans wait more than six years for a follow-up movie, and it looks like Moana 3 might be no different, as animated films today take a significant amount of time to produce.

As a huge fan of Moana, I’m excited about a third film, but it looks like we might be waiting a while. If Disney doesn’t jump into development right away after the next movie comes out in 2024, it could be 2029 or even later before we see Moana’s story continue. It seems they’ve got two Frozen movies planned to keep things busy in the meantime, so they aren’t rushing it.

David Derrick Jr., the director of Moana 2, has given a sneak peek at what Moana 3 might be about, suggesting there’s a lot more to explore with Moana now that she’s a demigod. It’s likely the third film will bring Moana and Maui back together, especially considering the ending of Moana 2 hinted that Matangi and Nalo could return as villains.
